Steering Wheel Interface for Aftermarket Headunits

Okay guys... I'm very close to pulling the trigger on the Eclipse 5435 but am EXCEEDINGLY worried that I'm going to loose my steering wheel controls. So worried that this is a trump card in the deal... that being said, I've reserched the SWI-X PAC unit and believe that it might be my silver bullet but, I'm still not sure about the install and functionality...

Can anyone here shed some light on this thing? HELLLLLLLP!

RP,

If you have a reputable car stereo shop ask about a wired remote adapter for that model. I too am close to pulling the trigger on the eclipse and am going with this adapter. I have demoed a unit at the stereo shop with the pac-swix and it did have a slight delay plus you had to mount that little eye somewhere. The wired one, I beleive is call a pac-swi-ecl or something to that effect. It has no delay and no eye to mount...and the stereo guys tell me it is far easier to program.

I think the Thumpster runs a Pac-Swix with his Eclipse headunit, hopefully he'll be along shortly. I'm kinda sorta wondering the same thing, I foresee a Kenwood DDX 7015 in my future.

Thanks guys... I've talked to Thump a little bit about this via email and I believe that this is the route I need to take.

Looking at what ford4knox posted, it appears that it might be unique for the Eclipse units? Will the 5435 have that 6-pin connector that is shown in the ebay auction?

Hey RP,

Sent ya an email with some info. You better take some pics and do a write up about this when you install!

This is the exact same stuff I'm looking to do in the spring. I was the guniea pig for the painted mirrors and now you'll be the guniea pig for this setup on a self install!

Best of luck,

Duke

i have the pac-swix in mine and it works flawlessly with my alpine 7998, the instructions said to mount it somewhere else but i mounted it in the kit for the radio and it works fine (even though the face of the radio sticks out a bout an inch past the eye), as for the delay i dont really notice it. its the best thing ive ever dont for this pickup cause i dont think i could live with out those controls . When it comes time to program it you better memorize the instructions cause you have to do every thing really fast, it took me several trys cause i didnt read all the way threw

The itch.... it's getting such that I can't scratch it.

Thanks to everyone for their insight on this purchase... or, potential purchase.

I'm going to do a little more research on the PAC-ECL unit that says it's specifically for Eclipse HUs. I feel certain that this unit would have the 6-pin interface on the back side and thus, would be the easiest to install and would eliminate the need for the 'eye' to be present on the face.

Duke... I'll be firing an email back your way shortly....

Thanks again for the insight and help folks. Planning is one thing... making sure it goes off without a hitch is another. LOL!

My XM may be going to the wayside VERY soon.

Heres another thing. I don't know if its something to do with the MP3s I burn but whenever I use MP3 cds, the controls don't work all the time. However, if I switch over to the radio they work fine? Its kind of wierd, I think Im just going to switch over to the Pac-Ecl and pray that it fixes it.

Hey Thump...

Can you confirm that the 5435 has the 6-pin input on the back as shown in this ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=5836545014

Will it work directly with the F-150? I can't find any confirmation that it will.

I have been told by a reputable car stereo shop that it works no problems and they have done it........ I think that I saw in the literature for the AVN that it comes set up for a wired remote.
