Help me decide. . .

Im trying to figure out a good exhaust set-up. I can't decide if I should run straight pipes but keep two cats, corner exit with 4" rolled tips or the same set-up but with a muffler, what kind I don't know. Im thinking Magnaflow or Flowmaster but I want it to be loud and sound MEAN, at idle and WOT.

If loud and mean is what you want then you should do like most of us with mustangs do. Run No cat's with a decent H-pipe and some flowmaster 40's. In my opinion running straight pipes sounds like crap. However, you'll need some o2 sensor adapters or a custom tune to keep your Check engine light from coming on without cat's.

I'd like to see you get the dual out straight pipe after the cats done. Thats the setup I want, but I'd like to see someone else try it out first and let me know how it is.. Not to many go straight pipes yet on the 04-06's.

I have never figured out why some like the sound/crackle of straight pipe, plus the loss in bottom end. IMO it sounds like A$$, but to each their own. I have run tons of flowmasters, and I am much happier with my Magnaflow. It is a lot deeper, and no drone. Mine is a daily driver, so to loud is not my taste...

Im only going to get rid of two cats, I don't feel like messing with the 02 sensors.

Just an FYI, but my 05 F150 has 4 O2 sensors, and 2 of them are in the rear cats. Not sure if the 04's are any different, but if they aren't, you may run into problems just trying to get rid of 2 of the cats.

I think you might loose to much back pressure taking the cats off, plus they may trip the dreaded CEL beacuse of the 02 sensors. Taking the muffler off you'll be fine. I had this setup in my 98 4.6L. Awesome sound. Only crackled / poped when it was cold and I'd really get on it. Nice deep sound with no cabin noise. (rear exit duals). I think the 5.4 is louder than the 4.6 though. Sounded better than any flowmaster/magnaflow muffler setup IMO.

Come on guys help me out here. Christmas time is coming up and Im going to give myself a little present of a new exhaust system for the F-150. Right now, Im considering just doing the one Magnaflow 14/18" and removing two cats. Im not too sure how loud it'll be but can anyone confirm that I would be okay with 02 sensors removing the 2 rear cats? Would running duals after the first 2 cats with 2 small Magnaflow mufflers be any louder ? I need as much help as I can get guys.

Do not get the Magnaflows, I have the 18" SIDO 2.5" piping and at idle...well just take a look in my sig at the reviews, I have videos of it and I'm telling you it's not very loud at idle.

THUMPER!!!

Ok i can tell you what you want beings that im about your age ect. My truck has true duals on it from the cats back and its LOUD and MEAN at WOT. At idle its aight but a bit raspy..maybe its my tips. (3.5'' rolled edge with back slash) You will not be disappointed. Im telling you when i let my buddy take it for a spin and he punches it when doing about 20 going by me....its unreal how much of a growl she has.

Now its not so loud that it sounds like **** either. Even though i purchased a magnaflow DI/DO muffler that i will put on eventually...i just wanted to have fun without it first. Im getting used to the noise now.

Anything else you wanna know just ask.

I don't want to lose ANY performance and if not gain some. So that kind of rules out the straight pipes.

I have ture duals from the cats back, ran into flowmaster 40's, and then back into some chrome tips. Very quiet at idle, but it really wakes up when on the throttle. I kind of like it that way, becuase some think that my truck exhuast is worthless untill I blow by them at full throttle. Also almost like the exhuast isn't there when traveling interstate speeds.

*I persoanlly wouldn't mess with any sensors, especially since I heard new emissions laws are coming out in a few years.

Run straight pipes from your current 4 cats right now. If you like it then keep it. If not cut out the back two. If that has that loud randy crackle put on mufflers.

Don't make this difficult. It's exhaust.

When I go long tubes ill rock the no cats with a dual/dual magna with built in x-pipe and dumping after the axle.
