If you go to sylvania's website, if you dig deep enough in the right places you can download the specs to all their bulbs. You'll find the socket type, MSCD (light output, to convert to lumens multiply by 4pi) , Rated Life (in hours), wattage, etc. Being an engineer I am always curious about that stuff so I usually check those kind of things and am full of what my wife calls useless info, but that's coming from a person who plugs something in and thinks it works by magic.

Go buy 2 more bulbs at walmart, wait a week then take back the old ones and get your $$ back! That way you can have a never ending supply!

Ok fellas,

So I took out both the 9005 silverstar bulbs out of my fogs. One was still in perfect shape while the other had a black mark on the bulb and wouldn't light. (blown)

So I still has the box, but no reciept. I took them back to Walmart and they gave me store credit. Now I have two new 9005 SS (they didn't have the 9145s and there was nothing else I wanted at Walmart so I bought new 9005s).

So this time I'm keeping both the box and reciept. I'll just rotate returns at different Walmarts every couple months if they blow. If I get bored with it then I'll brake down and buy some SS 9145s at the auto parts store.

It feels slightly dishonest since they're not being used the way they were intended. But then again it's not as long as it's within 90 days (Walmarts return policy). I'm also helping punish them for their poor ethics!!!

Duke

I figure if the store policy allows you to do that then go for it! I put in the 9145's about 3 weeks ago, so I'll see how long they last.

Has anyone had their Silverstar fog light bulbs blow that fast? I made extra sure not to touch the bulb while installing it.

Thats awefully fast to blow being as expensive as they are.

Is it possible to return them (I bought them at Walmart, still have the package but it's noticeably torn) or should I contact Sylvania?

This stinks,

Duke

I just had both of mine blow within a few days of each other. I had them in for over a year. Not very happy. I am going to try and take them back to Wally world and see if they will replace them.

I don't run them all that much. So I figured they would last a little longer. And if Wally wants to give me new ones well so be it.

Good luck on that! I'd say if you got a year out of them you are doing very well. Keep in mind that the 9005 SS's are NOT long lasting foglight bulbs, they are high beam bulbs that burn brighter and hotter and are only rated for like 60 hours!

This kind of thinking is why things cost more and more in this day and age. I'm not just singling you out, by the way. If anyone chooses to use a bulb that will being used in a manner for which it was not intended, don't expect it to last. And just choosing to use a bulb because it's "whiter" never made sense anyway. The stockers are just fine, so I stick with 'em.
