we broke none on the original grille, and three on the HD grille. the locking clips on the HD grille are way cheaper than on the original. i'm sure glad i had help. i can't imagine anyone being able to do it by themselves!

I did it myself and didn't break any tabs.

I must be some kind of god, or something.

Do I win a prize?

You are a god if you did it yourself and didn't break any tabs. If I had a prize, I'd give it to you.

Tical and crew......I've got to have that Harley grille as well I already have the CarriageWorks billet grille and was able to seperate the stock grill and reinstall the Carriageworks grille w/o breaking any tabs....it is tedious - but can be done. Carraigeworks recommended using Silicone adhesive to keep the top screws in place and that helped a lot.

On the Harley grille: 1) does it come with the grille surround and, 2) can you specify what color or does it only come primed....thought I'd read someone did get one in the black finish (which is my truck color) and someone also said they received in in primer? And.....last but not least, the other day I saw a white F-150 with the Harley grille and the chrome bars were white....did he paint that himself or are there choices?

thx

1) Yes.
2) Mine came primed as did most of the people I've read about. Only one on here that I'm aware of came in black. The Harley only comes in black so if you were to get it prepainted black would be the colour. I didn't bother inquiring about painted surround since my truck is silver.
3) I'm not aware of any white bars as an option. Must have been painted or crazy camera tricks that made chrome look like white.

When they first shipped, the surround was grey.

After that initial shipment, all the rest of them I have read about came with the black surround, and the Ford emblem. The black that came with mine was not what I would call "nice". The finish was scratched and a little orange peel looking. I have read where others came the same way, but since most are swapping out the black surround it didn't make much difference.

The bars are chrome. White bars must be a customer paint job.

KOOL AID do you have any pictures of your grill installed, I want to use my chrome surround with the harley grill and have not seen any other trucks with that set up most seem to have a painted surround. How long did it take you to do the complete install. It seems that the harley grill will clip back into the chrome surround.

You don't see a picture at the bottom of my posts?

If not, here's a few more.

Enjoy.

Wife had my parents get me the grille for xmas! It looks great, I love it. I broke 1 off the old grille and one off the Harley grille, but the ones on the Harley grille were already pretty loose, made out of much cheaper plastic. It came with the black surround and emblem. I used super glue to place the clip back on the harley grille and to help strenghten the other clips that were close to breaking, the clips don't seem to really do much anyway as the design of the surround has enough pressure to hold it on without the clips.

The first time I tried to get the surround off I got no where fast, so I took an hour break and came back. I was doing it in my basement on the carpet which I highly recommend, and had my corn burning stove running so the basement was nice and toasty. The reason I mention that is I think the warmth helped soften up the plastic, because when I came back the surrounds on both grilles started to come off a lot easier. Wish I would have waited to start and I might not have broke any clips!!

Has anyone come up with a good idea for a matching grille for the bumper?

haha, i've come up with an idea... but it's a little pricey. but it looks awesome. order another grill, use the top two bars and the bottom two bars and cut em down a little bit to fit the bottom opening. you get two lower grilles for every one upper in the 04-05 bumper. probably 4 on the 06's because of the smaller opening in the lower bumper. here's what it'd look like...

Sorry, my photochop skills, suck.

That's exactly what I wanted to do, but could not convince myself to spend the money.

However, If we could get 2 or 3 lower grill out of one upper, and split the cost 2 or 3 ways it wouldn't be too bad.

Problem is..... I don't know if there is a good way to cut it apart, and still be able to mount it.

Zigaboo......Did you think of a way to mount it?
