HID issue

Last night I installed an after market H13 based HID in my 04 FX4. The installation came out great, took about an hour. This morning, like many other days, I left for work. It was dark so I turn my headlights on but the fog was too thick so I've decided to turn the fog lights. As soon as I did this my darn in-dash hi beam marker came on. Now I know my H13 HID's are single filament unit. Therefore I think this is the cause of my problem. Does anyone know how to by-pass this hi beam marker? I read somewhere their is a unit that makes it possible. Thanks

Now if I dont fix this issue, would this have any long term problems? I might be able to live with the hi beam indicator on...I guess I'll think of it as fog light indicator

Im wondering if you wired them wrong. because my high beam indicator does not turn on when I put my fogs on.. I dont know

I just installed an H13 HID kit about 2 days ago.. I didnt buy a bi xenon kit so I only have low beam HIDS. But everything is working well for me.. The only thing that bugs me is the flickering of the lights when I unlock my truck at night. But that is only because they dont have enough juice to fully light up so they keep flickering until I start the truck.. But they look great and I have the projector headlights on the way. The only thing that was a pain in the butt when hooking them up was the fact that the Kit that I bought did not come with a harness to hook up to the stock harness. So I had to buy 2 H13 bulbs and taken them apart and wire up that harness.. But they work great now..

My high beam indicator comes on when I turn the fogs on. I have a non bi xenon kit, but to be honest I dont use the fog's now that I have HID's. IMO I think it looks crappy having them both on if the fogs are not HID's.

Whether its a bi-xenon or not it doesnt matter.
If it uses a relay harness to draw power directly from the battery, this is why you are getting a indicator light. It senses that there is an incorrect amount of resistance in the light circuit...as if the bulb is out. This is because all the kit does is plug in to tap into the trigger signal, and use it to energize the relay to switch battery power, which doesnt provide enough resistance to replicate a bulb plugged in.

Hey Yankee....my kit was the same, no harness to OEM plug. I just tap in in and put some electrical tape over it and water proof it. Maybe I should buy Xenarc fog kit...that will solve my OEM fog issue

I posted this on another HID thread and will be your easiest solution, situation is different, but solution is the same:

>I installed and HID kit in a lincoln and I lost the high beams and the headlight out >sensor told me a headlight was out each time I started the car because of the HIDs.

Simple solution, install a Blocking Diode between the low and high beam wires on the lamp connector (in the correct direction). This will let the High beam power supply "flow" to the low beam side and keep the HIDs on when you select high beam and will not let the low beam power flow into the high beam which would make you High beam indicator stay on all the time. We sell HID kits for the Porsche 928 and I do this mod on all of our kits.

Here is a link to the best blocking diodes I could find, and they even come in an insulated "inline fuse type" enclosure.

Hey 928, I read that other day and I marked the web page but wasnt sure if it would apply to my situation. Thanks a lot for the tip...now you said connect the hi to lo...based on the picture, would you just plug that yellow ends between hi and lo in the harness?

You would connect it to the Hi and Low Pins of the HID Harness
, NOT the vehicle harness (never modifiy your factory harnesses). Most HID kits have a jumper wire between the Hi and Low Pins so the HID stays on when you select High Beams (or else your headlights will go out), this is what causes your High Beam indicator to stay on or issues with Fog lights as the Lowe beam power is backfeeding thru the High Beam relay to cause these issues. You simply replace this jumper with the Blocking Diode. If the jumper is there it makes it easier since you can cut the jumper and then crimp each end into the diode (the one I spec'd has crimp ends). If your Kit does not have a jumper you will need to solder or crimp some wires on the Hi and lo pins of the HID bulb connector and then crimp on the Blocking Diode.

Here is photo of how we do it on an H4 Connector.

Hope that helps,

928, thanks for the clear explaination...unfortunately I do not have hi pin on my HID harness, remember I only have low beam unit. Therefore I only have two pins (low beam and the ground). Now having said this, is there any other solution or can I just keep it as is.
