Lovin my Magnaflow

I had a bit of a busy weekend. I got to watch both the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns win (and believe me that is rare) and still had time to install a set of Magnaflow SIDO exhaust on the “Little Red Wagon”. I was a little worried because of all the talk about noise with this or that exhaust system. I did my F-150 Online research and would like to thank all who felt that Magnaflow was the way to go; you were right. I love the sound; even my wife loves the sound. She says, “that’s the way a 150 is supposed to sound”. You get that beautiful rumble when you start-r-up, and while cruising around it’s very low, sometimes you don’t even hear it but when you step on the gas it’s there (no power to go with the sound but it does sound good).

I had a spare 15 minutes so I tossed on an Airaid Jr. also. I went with the Jr. so I wouldn’t have to stare at a CEL all day. Anyway, thanks for all the help in making the call for Magnaflow. Check it out in the “More Mods” photo gallery. Thanks.

I've got my MagnaFlow SISO on order...Should be here sometime next week. I opted to go with SISO as I thought there would be some challenges with the factory tow package, but I see you have that also, so guess not. Did you get the 18" muffler? Just installed the AF1 intake tonight, so anticipating the CEL, but not one yet. I know that the XCal 2 will take care of it though once it arrives after Mike is finished building it.

Yes, I got the 18" muffler. It’s very, very tiny compared to the gigantic stock muffler. When I looked at it in the box I was a little worried, but like I said I’m lovin it now.

I've got the 18" SIDO also and I really like the quality of the components - nice 304 stainless. The sound is just right - would not want it any louder.

Yea it does look good; to bad you can't see it all the time. You just get the tips out the back, a teaser.

The Maggie SIDO is great. BUT if you do a lot of highway driving and there are either hills or slight uphill grades it will make a loud moaning sound from 60-80 MPH. I had the magnaflow resonator installed today. It decreased the moan, not as much as I'd like, but enough for now. Maybe later I'll take out the back seat and do dynamat. It's just that I do a lot of daily driving in this thing for work. About 120 miles a day, so it gets annoying. Other than that, I love the low melow rumble. I post pics later this week of the camaro tips I had installed too.

The install was pretty easy, with just a couple of issues. I did the install in my garage on jack stands (no lift needed). I got a little help from my wife to get the stock exhaust out (she guided the tail pipe over the rear axle), the assembly is kinda heavy. The first small issue was I didn’t know you have to twist the stock muffler assembly about 15 degrees counter clockwise (looking from the rear) to unlock it from the “y” pipe extension. So I spent a few minutes trying to figure out why this thing would not pull out. The factory trailer hitch uses the same mounting location Magnaflow specs out for the rear hangers. So once I decided the best place to drill and mount my rear hangers the next issue was that I had to make a couple of bends in the driver side hanger (the one welded to the new tail pipe) so it would line up with the hanger I mounted to the trailer hitch. The only thing left was to fit it up for a good even look and tighten down the clamps.

I am disappointed with the way they fit but it worked out pretty good, the tips don't line up right, but I see yours do. I have an 04 so it's a different kit too. Anyways, looks good, I too have the 18" muffler and wish it was a bit louder because the performance gain (if any) isn't really there, just mileage (.5-1mpg), but it's a significant mpg gain imo.

I considered the Magnaflow and the Flowmaster. After reading what others said about the Flowmaster being louder than the Magnaflow my mind was made up. I didn’t want a really loud exhaust and the Magnaflow is as loud as I would like.

Josiah, maybe you could try getting under the truck while it is sitting on the ground and just loosen the clamps enough to move the pipes, then try to get them lined up. With the rear wheels off the ground the springs get in the way of getting it all lined up. Depending on where your hangers are mounted to your frame you may have to do a little persuasion on the rear tailpipe hangers also.

I already tried :\ It's welded as of now anyway so thats out of the question, but when I was installing it I couldn't get them perfectly lined up, they were a few inches off as you can see, when I had them weld the hangars, they evened it out a bit.

I agree, great sound, love the Maggie SIDO.
My only gripe is the heat tarnish I got on my tips.
(See my gallery for pic.)
I tried Mothers metal polish, didn't help much.

Anyone else with this problem? I called Anita at Troyer
and she said it was odd. Suggested maybe some datalogging
to eliminate a lean condition.

Threw one CEL at 25,000. Reset the ecu and good since then.

Besides this small cosmetic issue, the setup is the best sound
w/o drone.
