Kleen Wheels

Was wondering if anyone had the Kleen Wheels covers on their truck and had pictures?

I've only had my truck for a month or so and I ahve never seen so much brake dust.

Where in NC are you located?? Cool to have another NC'er in here! Get a set of porterfield carbon-kevlar pads for the front and no more brake dust. I have seen the horror the Kleen Wheels cause behind the wheel and I highly advise against them!!!! Every car that comes in at work that has those damn dust covers has so much buildup of dust caked in behind the wheels and caked all in the disc vents and in the caliper it is unreal. When you pull the wheel off, like piles of it falls out from where it gets trapped in the wheels behind the cover and on everything else. PLEASE do not get these and get a set of dust free type pads instead!!!!

I used them on my truck untill I replaced the pad with ceramics. They worked great while they were on. Never had any brake dust with them installed. I dont have any pics of them insalled. The only problem I had with them is you have to make sure you check the lugs a few times after you put them on, I had one wheel come loose. Hope this helps you out a little.

I have 2 sets of them on my FX4 and they are well worth the money. Just make sure you do some research and get the correct part # for your particular wheel before you buy. When you install them, they have a left and a right in the set (they are marked with a sticker on the inside) and orient them with the wheel correctly. On 04-06 F150's they will fit in 6 different positions, but only 1 is correct, the vent slots should be exposed between the wheel spokes and equally spaced.

I've had them on my truck for 3500 miles. I have pulled the rims a couple times, non brake related. No build up of dust on the inside as they are mostly vertical not horizontal like the part of the rims the dust settles on.
These are like oil, oil changes, rims etc. A religious experience for many. Either you hate them or you love them.

I never cared, but they were cheap enough on e-bay to try them.
I like them quite well. No brake dust at all, the rims stay a lot cleaner.

If you remove your rims for anything, always be sure to torque the rims back down to 150 foot pounds. That is quite a bit. Don't over torque them. If you don't have a torque wrench for your tires, this would be a good time to drop the 15-20 bucks a cheap one costs.
Most rotor problems are caused by guys over torqueing the rims when they rotate the tires, etc.

After your brake warranty is expired at 12k you might want to consider putting on the ceramic pads, but every brake guy I know (thats a lot because I sold autoparts locally for years) recommend turning the rotors when you do. Sure you might not have to, but that means you are willing to assume liability in case of any brake failure of any kind.

If you do put the ceramics on, the dealer will no longer feel much obligation for any brake problems you might have. That is from three dealerships I asked on this subject.

So I figure that when the brakes wear down, say at 15-18k, I may go with the ceramics.

Although some are posting that the dust comes back after two or three thousand miles.

Well, it's your truck and your buck so good luck with whatever you do.
Chris
