4.10 Gears and Detroit True Trac Installed

Well, after contemplating this purchase for more than a year, I was finally forced to take the plunge when I installed the 35 x 12.5 x 17 Pro Comp XTerrains on my truck. The 3.73s just couldn't get it done. Two weeks ago, I had the 4.10 gears and the True Trac Posi's installed front and rear. Big price tag; but, noticeable results. Yesterday, I got a call from my son who was on his way home from work. He asked "Well, Dad, do you want to put that big monster to the test". The answer, of course, was yes. A work van had taken a corner to hard on a country road and landed down in the ditch. The ditch was near a drain culvert so the van was in deep. After loading the Tow Tune, I hooked up and pulled the Van out of the ditch. In two-wheel drive and without snapping the tow strap at all. Before, the gears, this would have been a "snapped pull" to get it moving even in the days when I had 3.73 Gears and 33s.

Fun stuff. I look forward to a winter where we pull cars and trucks out.

Nice addition, especially the True Traks.

What are you doing with the front 3.73 8.8 inch unit? Curious because I would like to change my 3.55 8.8 rear to 3.73. I would like 4.10 but between gas mileage and warranty I will probably stick to stock ratios.

Good story. I have a similar one, in my 2002 F150 5.4L non-LS, I pulled an 87 or so F-350 with a camper that was stuck in a ditch and the eingine was off, I was on loose gravel pulling him, I spun quite a bit, he doubted I could do it from the beginning but he was desperate, ended up yanking a tad and pulled him out, it was more or less pulling him up a smooth gravel hill but it was steep. Felt really good. I am sure it would have been easy as hell to do in my new truck, as it's 4wd, LS and heavy.

Once again, good story, I'd assume you could do that with factory LS.

why only 4.10? I have that in my truck and i'm rocking 29" tall tires.

I would have went 4.56's atleast with that wheel/tire package.

Who did your install and what was the final price?

I spoke with the salesman at the Fort Worth 4wheel parts and he gave me an estimate of 1500 for gears (genuine in front and precision in rear) and another 800 for the true trac in the rear. Per the salesman, he said that having a LS front would cause me to "pop" my cv joints like crazy and didn't recommend it at all.

How is yours riding in 4wd, notice any difference in power/pull. I recently switched to 315's and want will be dropping gears for Christmas, haven't decided on 4.10 or 4.56 yet, but I'm leaning toward the latter.

Thanks
