Use of transmission shift question, opinions needed

I have always been a manual transmission man. Now with this automatic, when are u guys using drive1, drive 2? Also, do you turn off overdrive when city driving?

Whats your opinion?

I use it when I want to hold a gear or just play around, otherwise I let it shift itself. I use OD off a lot when on the highway when I want to slow down a little without tapping the brakes and freaking people out behind me. Before I got the roush tune however, the manual 1st and 2nd selections would not give me full throttle, it seemed to take the whole pedal to get the throttle to open like 1/2 way. Something do with hill climbing assist or something like that.

1 and 2? Almost never. Maybe if I need traction in mud or snow or I want to just crawl along a forest road looking for animals. I only disable OD when fooling around or when the tranny hunts too much while towing. Maybe I'm naiave, but I trust Ford to program their engine/tranny to work in almost all conditions in the default drive/od setting.

I find w/my truck that when I select 2nd gear that is the gear I start out in. I use this when the roads are wet and I'm having traction problems (especially when pulling out into traffic). I know my trans is slipping more than it should upon takeoff but it is only for short periods and used infrequently. If I then shift into D once I'm moving I find my trans will downshift into 1st if I haven't reached the 1-2 shift point yet.

Putting a GM trans in 2nd ususally means (or did when I was a kid ) that your trans still starts out in first but holds at second... completely different.
