What about those who upgrade to remote start? Then you'd have two rather large remotes to carry around.

Plus...the trunk remote button would drive me nuts since it would have no application on the truck

Someone is bound to try this. I would imagine that Ford doesn't use diffent keyless entry or anti-theft systems in their vehicles, but I could be wrong. I'm sure that the "key guy" on eBay will have them soon for cheap, if someone would be willing to try.

Get one and try it?

I imagine it would work.

Although, its just a stupid key.

1. Insert an existing key into the ignition cylinder.

2. Turn the ignition cylinder to ON (RUN) and back to OFF.

3. Remove the existing key and, within 15 seconds, insert the new key and turn it to ON (RUN).

4. The security light will light up for two seconds to indicate success in programming the key into the vehicle.

5. Don't attempt to start the vehicle with any key for at least 1 minute.

Wrong, ford has different PATS codes for different transceivers.

the key blank itself may be a different size (possible too short or too long)

Anyone who has ever had a key cut on the wrong blank will tell you what a PITA it is.
