Rear View Mirror Removal???

I've read under some "Tinting" threads that removing the rear view mirror is difficult?
I've looked at mine briefly and can't figure how it comes off.
Is there a "trick" or some "special tool" ?

Save yourself alot of agrivation, and possibly a broken windshield, and take your truck to the local glass shop and have them removeit for you.
I bought a better rearview mirror for my truck, and the installers ended up buying me a new windshield as they broke mine trying to remove it.

Certainly worth the peace of mind to have a shop do it. That way, if they break it they replace it.

Even the Ford "tech" that tried to remove mine cracked the glass.

I'd tell you how I do it, but it scares the hell out of me, and I don't want you coming after me after you ****** a section out of your windshield trying to get the rearview mirror off. The procedure in the book sucks, I could never do it the official way.

Let me guess, you grab the mirror and reaf on it as hard as you can, and pray to god you dont brake the windshield.
Pretty good guess, right.....thats how my Ford guy said he does it!

That's the way a guy I work with did it...he pulled a ovalish section out of the windshield of a Mark VIII.

I normally wedge a pocket screwdriver into the slot where the mirror slides onto the mounting plate on the windshield, say a couple Hail Mary's, and pry down to spread the clips of the mirror outward around the mounting bracket on the windshield. I've broken my fair share of glass...but none so far doing that.
