Got underdrive pullies on!

Finished up yesterday.

I couldnt have done it with out you guys. The kit I had didnt have any instructions so I was kinda just going on the info I got you you guys.

Fan schroud sucks. Pretty tricky to get out... and that crank bolt.. whew!
Without an impact wrench, its pretty hard.

Another thing that really slowed me down was my 18mm socket was lost/missing. I had the 17 and the 19... 18mm is the size of the crank bolt.
Had to go buy a new one.

Thanks again.

Any noticable difference with the pullies? What was the "advertised" power gain?

Yeah, give it a week or so and let us know if you feel any difference! I know when installed on my old Saturn, they really made a difference in throttle responce and power delivery.

so you have an underdrive crank pulley and what other overdrive pullies? i have never really been a fan of the pullies myself, you underdrive the crank and then have to overdrive everything else so as not to damage it.

The pullies are from Troyer Performance. Advertised gain is 11.8-15 RWHP.

Noticable gains... I'd say that it feels like it revs up faster and accelerates easier. As far as power gains... maybe, but it feels like it accelerates faster.

I like em. Even if the HP gains are only 5 hp... every pony counts!

Great mod!

NoName, when you get around to putting your on, if you have any questions, just email me.

So you're saying it builds rpm's quicker? That makes complete sense, and it still may not give you much hp. Building RPM's quicker is a new performance goal I haven't really thought about, but do now. Thanks for the review, how hard was it to install? Please answer soon so I can buy mine from Troyer.

Underdrive pullies have thier fare share of problems, at least with my experiences. I have raced mustangs for years and although on a dyno they prove to increase horsepower by a couple they tend to create more heat decreasing hp resulting from heat soak. On a supercharged vehicle such as a Lightning and the 03-04 Cobra pullies free up more hp and the heat soak is minimal compared to the hp gained which is unfortunately not the case with NA vehicles.

I might be mistaken here, but the steeda crank pully is just a pully, not harmonic balancer too?

I looked around. They're not that much cheaper.. $20.
Who manufactures steeda pulleys?

Troyer Pulleys are ASP brand.

ASPracing.com I think.. just look at 02-03 ford truck, same pully set.

Some people say you can use the mustang pullies. Just be sure the crank pulley includes the balancer. Some are "stack on" kind where a pulley attaches to your original pulley and balancer. I believe that's how they work.

If it's a 20 or 30 dollar difference..... I would get the ones made for my truck. I found mine used for 100 bucks(Troyer) and have no problems with overheating (and I live in TX) or charging issues. Good mod that takes 2 or 3 hours WITH THE PROPER TOOLS and seems to make the turn RPM's a bit faster (even seems a little smoother). For $200 I might think twice about it (if your like me and not rich).... get a good deal on a set like I did and I'd say go for it.

Plus, I'll add on that, according to Mike T, that if you buy a 3-piece mustang pulley set, that you can have problems with the alternator spinning too slow. He recommends the 2-piece sets.
