Navigation Help

I bought the 2006 Ford Pioneer OEM navigation system off of Ebay. I have talked to others who have installed in various vehicles...F-150 included.

I installed the unit in the dash with the GPS antenna...very easy.

It seemed to work Great until....

...The steering wheel controls don't work
....The Subwoofer doesn't work
......The button illumination doesn't work.

This odd because my satelite radio, DSP, Bluetooth phone kit, all work perfectly, but these features don't.

I can access the diagnostic menu of the head unit and it lists all of the features that do not work as "unconfigured."

Can anyone please help me.....It is so close to being a great solution for Navigation as it is basically OEM and it was relatively inexpensive compared to aftermarket.

Thanks

I'm not familar with this unit. Is it something available from the factory in another Ford vehicle?

If it's the same one, it's offered in the ford 500,explorer and mountaineer for 06. My wife has one in her 500. It's similiar to the pioneer avic d1 in function and appearance, but has a 6 disc in dash CD which can be loaded without dropping the nav screen. I've been thinking about this mod to and have seen them on ebay for under 700.00.

If it's the same (or similar) as the unit in the 500, I dunno how it'd work in an F150 period. Ford's navigation setups require a few inputs from different sensors, like a reverse signal from the MLP to determine direction changes and a hardwired input from the ABS module for a vehicle speed signal. And in cars with navigation from the factory, they're hardwired into the vehicle's SCP network and require configuration with a scan tool.

If you find the time, get some pics. That will grab more people's attention.

I think that Quintin hit it on the head....

...it is the 500, explorer, etc. unit that you can see in the '06 Fords. It is made my Pioneer and the functionality of the navigation is great. Like I said before all of the functions work expect for those major ones.

I took the truck down to my dealership and we tried to "reprogram" the radio as it is know that the unit will display similar problems in a 500 or explorer if not "programmed" when it is installed. The problem is, as Q suggested, that the F-150's radio wiring does not connect to the data link connector for the vehicle and thus the computer cannot communicate with the unit through the truck.

I have almost given up on it but if anyone can think of a way to "work around" this problem this could be a great navigation solution.

I'm very interested to hear / see how this works. This could be exactly what I'm looking for if it does indeed work.

Wouldn't he need a PAC SWI-X steering wheel module, to get the steering wheel controls to work?
Not sure how the Pioneer works.

The PAC SWI-X is for aftermarket radios. This is a Ford Radio with Pioneer technology, not really the same thing.

Sounds like it would have been cheaper to buy the Pioneer AVIC-D1

One thing is for sure......

...it would NOT be cheaper to buy an aftermarket unit.....I don't know why people keep saying that. These Ford units can be found on ebay for 600 - 700 bucks.

I don't have steering wheel controls so that won't be an issue. The subwoofer thing is not important, cause i'm gonna wire up an aftermarket one, then the light illumination has just got to be just a wiring adjustment. Maybe if you get the wiring diagrams for the vehicle it came out of, and the wiring diagram for your truck, you might be able to switch some wires around to get it working. Got any pics of the install?? thanks....
