locking Glove Box???

Does ford or anyone aftermarket make a locking glove box? In Ohio, CCW law requires the weapon to be locked if it's not on you. Just looking at my options with my 04.

Not that I'm aware of. Besides, even with a lock, it's not that hard to break into the glovebox. Been there, done that. Legally too!

Might want to look into those little lockboxes that bolt to the floorpan somehow or another.

I have also seen lock boxes that fit under the seat. Not sure what they bolt to, but that would probably be a lot more secure than a lock on the glove box.

I suspect that Allan's question has more to do with being able to transport his gun legally and not so much about how 'secure' the glovebox lock might be.

I dunno, if that were the case, wouldn't just carrying it in a case from point A to B unloaded suffice? I may have been mistaken in thinking of secure storage for times he can't carry a weapon.

Exactly, the stupid law in Ohio states you have to have it locked up if not carrying. So if I go to a store and they have a "no guns" sign, I have to run back to my truck and lock it up somehow. I'm not real concerned about the truck getting broken into and my weapon stolen, just want to be in compliance.

I am by no means advocating breaking the law, but, if they don't ask when I go in somewhere carrying, I ain't telling...

But back to the start of this thread, no, there's no locking gloveboxes available for these new trucks that I'm aware of. I suppose if you had time on your hands and wanted to get creative, you could try whittling and hacking on the glovebox door to fit a locking handle from another car, like a Town Car/Crown Vic/Grand Marquis, assuming the diamensions are close enough to fit.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a locking lid that will go in the center console out there? I know its not the glovebox, and not even sure if you have a center console, but I know that option exists.

As far as lock boxes, I know I've seen some that will fit under our seats. I looked into them, but TX doesn't require me to lock it up inside a locked truck.

I have not yet seen anything for the glove box. It would basically have to replace the current door, etc. right!? Just doesn't seem that 'safe' (pun intended). Now, if you have the flow-thru floor console, then there is a safe that'll fit in there.

I've looked at that as well, and will probably get one, but the law in Ohio sucks, and it has to be a glovebox that locks, or in a locked container in plain view.

Is "locking" your truck doors not enough?.....I would think that it is.....unless it is specifically stated within the Ohio Statute that the firearm must be lock up within a locked vehichle...thus being "double-locked".....

Did they "define" glovebox in the law books? Or is it just a locked compartment. Many statutes will have some leeway one way or the other. If nothing else, contact your local law officials to clarify it. Plus, I see common sense coming into play here. If an official ever did check to see that it was locked up, I'm fairly certain they'd be "okay" with the console safe. That's just my $0.02.
