If an official ever did check to see that it was locked up, I'm fairly certain they'd be "okay" with the console safe. That's just my $0.02.
The law simply states that it has to be in a locked container and that container has to be in plain sight! We're a little behind the times here. But I don't have a flow through console, just a 40/20/40 seat with the flip up arm rest/console. So anything I use must be visible from someone standing outside of the vehicle.

ya... you never know when you might need to open up a can of beer or something...

But seriously... why do you need to carry a gun????? What kind of stores do you shop in?
but I guess that would be opening up a whole can of worms to ask that question so maybe I won't ask...

Obviously you have never been robbed, or threatened with a weapon. If someone comes up to steal your car with your kiddies in the back seat wouldn't you like to be able to protect yourself and your family? Cops are very very rarely there in time to actually stop a crime, so I would like to be able to stop it myself.

I mounted a Fort Knox Handgun Safe inside my center console. The thing weighs 25 pounds and is built tough!

ohhhhh... so having a handgun around your kids is safer???
facts from this website http://www.kidsandguns.org/study/fact_file.asp#deaths
  • Every nine hours a child or teen was killed in a firearm-related accident or suicide in 2005.
  • In 2005, there were 16,298 kids injured by a firearm

I'm not suggesting that YOU are irresponsible with your gun, but the odds are that a kid is more likely to be injured/killed by the gun that you carry around than by a carjacking.
Unless you are living in a really really bad area... but if thats the case then MOVE.

and if you get robbed by a guy with a gun... give him your money. If you pull a gun and try to defend yourself you'll probably get shot. I'd be pissed that I lost my wallet, but I'd be alive

Just my opinion... I don't want to start a fight.
on a related story...
I'm from Ohio, and I still remember when I was hanging out with some friends (after the conceal and carry law was passed) and one of their friends I didn't know pulled out a handgun. He had a permit to carry, but when you are just hanging out BBQing/drinking and some random guy has a gun... that just doesn't make me feel "more safe".

sorry to hijack the thread...

Actually I grew up around guns I have been shooting since I was about 6, if you teach your children the correct way to handle a gun its much safer than not letting them know you have one and them being ignorant to them. The main problem with kids and guns is they don't know anything other than what they see in movies, then they find a gun their parents have and have no idea how to handle it and shoot themselves or a friend. If someone comes up and robs me I will give him my wallet but what if he decides that robbing me isn't enough and wants to get rid of me, I would much rather be prepared for the situation and have a fighting chance instead of getting killed execution style. If you were at a party and someone you didn't know pulled out a gun and was showing it around he was an idiot and breaking the law. You do not take the weapon out unless you are going to use it, I feel much safer knowing that honest citizens are carrying and not just criminals. If I was a criminal I would be very nervous about causing problems in a state with concealed carry because you never know who has a gun and who doesn't. This is all a point of view thing I am very pro gun and you are not, if I was guessing I would say you have a very limited exposure to guns in real life.

Spoken like a true bleeding heart liberal. I'm sure Hillary will appreciate your vote. I bet you think that it's guns, and not people, that kill people.

I never said that... you are making assumptions

I have a shotgun and used to hunt when I was growing up. (now I live in a city and don't have time / locations to hunt) If someone breaks into my house when I'm home I will defend myself with it. But I don't have any kids to worry about right now either. Once I do, the shotgun will be locked up securely out of their reach.

BUT I see no need to carry a concealed weapon around at all times. That was my point, and my clearly just my opinion.

I don't have a problem with you having an opinion as long as your not trying to force it upon me, and you aren't out screaming guns are bad there should be no guns. However may I make a suggestion, when you have kids trade the shotgun in on a good pistol and take some training on how to use it and be safe. That way you don't have to try and get a gun out unlocked and loaded if someone breaks in.

Some people just don't get it and it is unfortunate.

...It was once said a liberal is a conservative that has never been mugged.
