Thumbs down homelink mod gone bad, now, need replacement cover!

Well, tried to do the homelink mod a la Bamorris2 and need a new cover. This is the cover that goes between the map lights.

Any ideas of what the part number is for this? What else can be done to cover the hole?

The problem is that now that I did the hole to put the homelink xmitter, it doesnt fit because of the map lights above it. I have the whole case (including the black plastic housing) in there, and dont wanna gut the whole thing (the board seems to be well stuck and dont wanna damage it)

So now, I have a whole in my roof!

Thanks

I just did that mod in my 05 with no issues, in the stock location for a stock look. You will have to buy a new visor.

JC - Sorry to hear things didn't go well. Just to satisfy my curriosity, do you have any pics of the 'homelink went bad'? I'd be interested to see what happened.

Just this past Friday, I did the same mod on my 2nd F150 (my '05), and thankfully, all went well. I was a little nervous, though, because it is a pretty delicate operation; and I was fully aware that I may have to end up buying a new piece, like you... But it's ok...

In hindsight, if I ever do this mod again, I think I'd do it a little differently. If there is a next time, I think I'd try to mount it without using the bezel, and place the rubber button on the inside of the overhead piece, with the button protruding out from them. That way, all you'd see would be the 3 button mounted flush with the plastic... Ok, enough rambling...

Anyway, I don't think the 'pieces' that you needs would be all that expensive; you may want to get a couple, that way "if you don't succeed, try & try again"!

Morris: I pretty much calculated the cut wrong. I'll post some pics later today so that you can see what I mean. I didnt think the black casing of the unit would be that deep so when I made the oval cut on the cover, it was too late. I pieced everything together and sure enough, it didnt fit depth-wise. Like I mentioned, I dont want to gut the board since it seems to be pretty well glued to the case and I dont want to spend another 35 bucks on another unit. Plus, Im not sure I can find such another nice piece again. But I guess I'll start looking at ebay again.

Thanks for teh reply, I'll post the pics when I get home

Why did you cut an oval in it? When I did mine, I drilled a total of 6 holes. 3 for the buttons, 1 for the led, and 2 for the tabs that connect the cover to the circuit board case. Then I glued some hard rubber pieces to the end of the rubber buttons that actually push the real buttons on the circuit board.

Because I wanted to have the same look you do... Looking at it I thought you did cut a hole to put the cover...
