FX4 vs. Lariat

I'd like to know what the "mechanical" differences are between the FX4 and the Lariat. I know about the skid plates that are also available for the Lariat and the shocks that are not. But are there any other differences.

btw. I'm not talking about interior options. Looking at mechanical.

From what I have always understoood, other than what was mentioned, the differences were cosmetic.

Aren't the XLT's also mechanically identical to the FX4 and Lariat, besides the shocks and optional skidplates?

Do a search, you will find plenty. Mostly arguments about who is beter.

The general concensus is that FX4 are for younger, more hip, and rugged guys
and Lariat guys are classy, older, and more "civilized" gentlmen

Occasionally, a dealer screws up and lets one into the "uncivilized" monkey's hands.
