I agree 100%. People will "play around" with any new style of engine that is out there to get the most out of it for the least amount of money. I don't think modding the intake system will hurt the engine any more than the after-market intakes will. If anything it should throw a code before anything gets hurt and if that happens put the truck back like it was before the code.

So you think if you take your truck in for a warranty repair of the engine they won't care that you have added a piece of plumbing pipe to it?

Just calculated my Mileage.
I just filled up at the station and my mpg only dropped by 0.2.

MPG with Magnaflow SIDO but no intake mod = approximately 12.5
MPG with Magnaflow SIDO and DWV = approximately = 12.0
MPG with Magnaflow SIDO, AF1, Ecal2 and driving real hard = 11.8

I've been flooring my truck since I installed the AF! and Excal2 and only dropped 0.2 mpg. Not to bad.
I'd like to know what the mileage is while driving normal but I can't help stomping on the gas. At WOT it just sounds great and the performance is so impressive.

I still have to data log and send the info into to Troyer also.

That is by far one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. An increase in hp does not necessarily mean that you're going to get less mileage- for example, an increase in airflow EFFICIENCY going in and out of your engine will typically increase in horsepower/torque AND increase in fuel economy... assuming all things remain constant- such as air pressure, temp, humidity, fuel, and driving habits- while allowing for your fuel injection system to compensate for the change in airflow. As for these slight decreases in MPG, I'd venture to say that these are FAR from controlled environments.

When you install efans and get better horsepower, the mileage increases. It has been proven over and over. I have a 91 octane tune that increased horsepower and mileage as long as I keep my foot out of it.

Agreed...one of the stupidest comments I've heard.

cha94, I went with the airaid jr. for my 05. Cleans up the engine compartment, keeps the cold air coming in, and increases airflow. Check pics in gallery.

Guess what I should have said that MOST horsepower gains would decrease fuel mileage/economy. Guess not all do but if you have to buy premium fuel at an extra .10 a gallon to support a horsepower gain then is it really worth it? I like horsepower too but if you have to spend $500-$1000 to get an extra 50 HP and then have to buy premium fuel is that really cost effective?

Something to think about....

Do you think Ford would purposely spend thousands and thousands of dollars to Design, Engineer, prototype and finally tool up a baffle in order to hurt performance and reduce fuel economy?

Ford uses advanced computer airflow simulations to make sure that the intake delivers properly designed/specified airflow while meeting noise, performance and fuel economy targets. Believe me, if the baffle wasnt needed, it wouldnt be there in the first place.

Take a look at the stock intake. Its a massive, highly engineered, complicated structure. It would be alot cheaper just to run straight pipe. There is a reason they dont run straight pipe. Some people call the stock intake ugly, I think it is engineering "artwork". I look at it and imagine all the engineering time that went into its development.

Now, if you have a highly modified motor, you may have different intake requirements.

It's .20 per gal. difference where I'm at. Would love the power, but even with a 2 mpg increase it would not be worth it.

Good point except you are leaving out the part about the "part" being designed to be quiet. Most of the stock intake is there to reduce noise. Take away the muffler and all you have left is a piece of pipe. So how much of the engineering of the intake is for noise reduction?

OK. Seeing as nobody has bothered to ask, I'll do the honors.

What was the gist of the thread in question that was removed?
