Good thing I don't have a clunk, and here is to me never getting one.
Guys,
Since the crunch I carpool with my wife . I havent put alot of miliage on my 05 screw since the dealer replaced the drive shaft but at 3k since the replacement no clunk. As for axle wrap-up being a potential culprit. Wow, eveything fits except when I come to a stop it used to clunk also. Still thinkin' on that though.

I started having the same problem a few months after I picked up my '05 5.4L SCAB, and my buddy had the same issue with his '04. It was almost like I had some useless overdrive gear in first; it would try to upshift, but only half way, and as I kept trying to accelerate, it would barely pull until the dang thing finally jerked into 2nd gear. It was worse when going around a corner and seemed to be more prevalent during warmer weather.

Well, after reading about the issue here, I fianllly took it to the dealer, and he did the slip-yoke lube on the first visit back in May. That lasted about five miles. I picked up my truck from the second visit today, and I think they got it; especially considering it was 107 here today in Dallas. As hard as I tried to get the problem to repeat itself tonight, I couldn't.

They did not replace the driveshaft on mine; rather, they focused on the following TSB's:

TSB 05-10-12: Reprogram PCM for 2nd-3rd shifting. I never had a problem between 2nd and 3rd, but I figure it can't hurt if there is a TSB out there.

TSB 06-08-02: Replace #7 check ball in the valve body. This, according to the service manager, was the real issue and why it took three days to get my truck back instead of two... but WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

Everything was performed under warrantee at NO cost, including rebalancing the tires since one of the weights was sitting on my driveway after the last visit, as well as the 20,000 mile inspection (I already had the oil changed elsewhere)... so needless to say, I'm out of the 12/12, if that actually exists. My dealer has also always comp'd me for car rentals on all of my waranntee visits. Kudos to Bob Tomes Ford here in McKinney for takin' care of a customer.

A list of TSB's specific to that VIN, the "clunk" from the Transmission was noted BUT also stated it was a "normal" occurance and DO NOT ATTEMPT REPAIR. So that ended my visit for the Clunk, I wish I could have gotten a printout of all the TSB's for my F150 but, of course they would give me one. Also as we know they'll only work on the problems you report, nothing PROACTIVE about Ford!

I could probably get you a prinout with all the TSBs on it. I just started working at a Ford dealer about 2 months ago (bodyman). I recently pulled them up for my rear window rattle and was suprised at how many there is. I would be willing to say there is atleast 20-30. If you get me your vin i can pull yours.

Still Clunkless

Fellow clunkers,
After putting 6k miles on my truck after the dealer replaced the driveshaft the "clunk" has not returned. Does this mean the problem has been solved? I hope so....Time will tell.

If your still within your warranty you could still bring it back for that, as long as your not over your 36k miles or 3 years. If you have a extended warranty then you have some longer time to feel at ease.

Still no clunk

Guys,
This will be the last installment of my clunk saga. 34000 miles and clunk has not returned.

why is the entire driveshaft being replaced? Could they not just replace the slipyoke as it would be cheaper for those that are out of warranty?
Had a GM with this problem, installed a new nickel plated slipyoke and that fixed it.

My GM did the same thing. My 05' F150 Screw every now and then, if I get on it after slowing down some it will make a clunk. I've come to expect it some esp with the truck getting older. There's going to be some play b/n the tranny tolerances, yoke, differential, etc.. Sometimes I think you will be fighting a loosing battle trying to fix it. These long wheel base trucks we have now b/c of wanting supercabs and supercrews make for a lot of slack and it will be felt(I'm not saying all cases are like this, esp on a new truck).

I had my shaft replaced for this clunk also. I wasn't as lucky as some of you. I still get it every now and then. At least it isn't every stinkin time I move the truck like it used to do.
