I was under the impression that that material is not for deadening sound, but for fire protection, if the engine catches fire, it melts the plastic gromments holding it to the hood and the material falls on the engine to aide in putting it out.

I see, never thought of that. Just always thought it was a sound dampner.

i just dont think it would work very well. if your engine compartment catches on fire i dont think it would really do any good if the flame went down the fuel rail under the truck

Starting this up again, I'm going to order the insulation ( moving to alaska soon, need to keep some heat in there ). For those of you that do have it, how many clips to you have holding it in? Talked to Josh at Tasca and he doesn't know how many it takes but he has them in stock.

Will do, I have the part numbers for both. Josh said the clips are 94 cents a piece but I can get 50 on ebay for $7.95. I asked him to open up a box for the insulation to count the holes, haven't heard back yet.

If your truck has that rubber strip that runs along the top of the radiator support, I think there might be 4 more clips beyond reusing the ones you already have. You should be able to see the holes in the hood support. If the holes aren't there, you're going to have to drill them.

I count 16 holes in the hood that could be used for the insulation ( including the clips for the rubber strip ). I doubt if Ford would make 2 different hoods but stranger things have happened.

I'll check mine this evening. I agree on the different hood, but some holes may not be used for the insulation too. I had to remove the insulation to put it on my Saleen hood sometime back, so my memory may not be that good.
