ignition kill switch...?

Okay this friend of mine in highschool had a 250 and he had a little switch down on the bottom of his console. If the switch was engaged you couldn't start his truck. I am not sure if this is classified as a kill switch because he still had power he could roll down the windows and listen to his stereo but couldn't start his truck. I want to do the same thing. That was if I leave my truck parked for a while I can flip it the alarm will still work but it would be hella hard to start. I already have an aftermarket alarm so I was interested to see what I need to do. Thanks a lot guys.

You are talking about a starter interrupter. Some new vehicle dealerships pre-install them and try to add that to the cost of the vehicle. It is a black plug with a removeable piece that kills the starter circuit when it is taken out. I don't remember the name of it, but I'm sure someone here will chime in and tell you what it is.

A cheap work-around would be to purchase a plain(non-PATS) key and have it cut to match your working key. When you want to leave the truck with the accessory turned on, leave that key in the ignition and that key will not start the truck.

This is a real easy thing to make your self. I did it to my mothers car. You will have to cut a wire that goes to the starter/solenoid. You will need a test light to figure out which wire it is. First with the key "on" the running position, you need to see what wires are hot. Then turn off the key and then have some one start the car and see what wire turns hot momentarily while starting. Cut that wire and put a switch on it. I used a floor dimmer switch and mounted it under the carpet under the brake pedal. If that switch is not on, the car won't start! I would recommend soldering and heat shrink tubing for the wire splice at the starter.(that's a must}

thanks FX4ME2 you know exactly what I am talking about. I can always rely on someone to give me some answers, and someone like ASINATRA for comical relief. I need it because I planning to buy a motorcycle and I think I am gonna park my truck in the parking garage. By any chance FX4ME2 or anybody, know what wire it is?

BTW. Most places won't make a copy of the PATS key because they know it has the chip and it is illegal or some bs like that.

Someone gave you false imfortation on the key. Anyone will duplicate it, as it has no value unless you program it. If you have two keys already it is easy, if not the computer on the truck needs to be reprogrammed. So there is no reason on earth not to duplicate it.
You can get them on e-bay for 11-18 bucks, and any shop will cut it for you.

The wire to 'break' for your key interupt is a red/blue wire under the steering column.

Speaking of ignitions, anyone thought of installing some sort of a push button starter? I had installed one from a Honda S2000 when I had my old Miata and thought it was pretty neat. Wonder what car though, to choose for a good looking push button switch.

Why would you want to hack up your wiring when you could just use a non-PATS key which would not start the truck but would run the accesories?

I too would love one fx4. I think it would be cool to get in and hit the button to start. I saw in a recent car mag that the new Aston Martins (owned by Ford) have a solid crystal start button...how cool would that be?

Would be sweet! I saw that crystal piece as well, man, that would be something! I'm curious as to how much the Aston Martin switch would be This mod is definitely in the back of my mind. It's not hard to do, starter switch, relay, and some wiring was it for my Miata, plus it was illuminated.

I am not going to leave a non-PATS key in the ignition when I park my truck. I am in college and there are a lot of people who like to **** around. The last thing I need is for someone to grab my keys from my dorm or something and go job riding. If they get my keys they'll just turn the radio on and they won't know what the hell is going on because it won't turn. Plus it frickin cool to put gadgets like that on your truck. I definitely want to try to put the button to start the truck. So would you leave the key in there or how would it work. I know the s2000 have it been I don't know the setup....Anyone care to explain.
