LTD Slip

This doesnt have to do with Lightnings but it does have to do with the performance aspect. I have an 05 F-150 with out a LTD Slip. I am looking for some input on what would be the best LTD Slip Diff. My truck is a street truck, light hauling but no hauling trailers. I have seen a bunch but dont know what would be the better of the bunch(Auburns, Detroit, FRPP and so on). I would like to go BIGGER to back up my future mods. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

HI!... I would suggest to just go to your dealer and buy the factory 9.75 STERLING limited slip diff. When I broke mine I went out shopping for new posi carriers. I ended up going back to stock. I know one thing, most after market units were 1-2 the size of the factory unit. Stay away from the EATON posi, it's total junk. Tons of failures on them. The LIGHTNING guys are going 10's, 11's in the 1/4 and not having problems with the stock unit. So with what your going to be doing with your truck, I'd strongly suggest getting the factory posi set-up.

Detroit Locker Tru Trac. More durable, no clutch packs to wear out, better torque split.

Thanks guys, I couldnt have gotten better info from two of the BIGGEST Gurus of Ford F-150s and Lightnings.
At this point I am going with the FRPP, for warranty purposes. Unless I can find something in writing saying that it wont void my warranty, this is the route I will be taking.

Neal, do you happen to have any part #s, I couldnt find a Sterling LS for my truck. I have an 8.8 rear-end. I had 3.73s in my last truck and was pretty happy with them. Should I look into another set maybe 4.10s.

Thanks again guys , I appreciate it

HI!... MyVersion : I thought you had a 5.4 equipped truck. They all come with the STERLING 9.75 rearend. Sterling is the company that makes that rearend for FORD's. Didn't realize you had a 8.8 rearend. For the 8.8 I would go AUBURN PRO or a DETROIT LOCKER.

Neal,
You're right, I "had" a 5.4 reg cab short bed My Baby. Unfortunately she is no longer with us, some bastard played ping pong with me in his company car (Volvo S80T) doing about 45, he hit me from behind and spun me into a guard rail. Yeah he said "sorry, the Turbo just spooled up". I get pissed thinking about it. I just dropped in a Level tranny and JDM e-fans w/ high flow water pump, never mind every thing else. I'm starting to get pissed talking about it. I spent over a year looking for that truck .

Now I have an 05 reg cab short bed, BUT I have a 4.6 . I wanted the 5.4 but no dealers had them in 2wd reg cab short beds. I will try to build this one like his BIGGER brother was (obviously not as fast though). Now its going to take me a bit longer. I just got married and bought a house, so I will do things step by step.
By the way, your truck is sick.
Thanks for the info, and bringing back memories of My Baby

I know I have a 3.55 Non Limited Slip 10 bolt rear, but I am not sure how many splines I have. I am asuming I have a 31 spline. How or where can i find out exactly what I have, not just for how many splines I have nut for my entire rear end to.

Thanks

According to the Consumers Bill of Rights, ARTICLE TWO: "You have the Right to use high-quality aftermarket parts and know that your new car warranty claims will be honored. In fact, your vehicle dealer may not reject a warranty claim simply because an aftermarket product is present. A warranty denial under such circumstances may be proper only if an aftermarket part caused the failure being claimed."

It goes into further detail, but regardless of what the manufacture, or warranty states, if you contest a denial of a repair that should be covered under your warranty, but they claim that your warrenty is void due to after market parts, they MUST PROVE that the after market part in question acctualy caused the problem.

For more information, look up The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)),
