What would REALLY be nice would be to keep the tie downs, but not have them drip water for an hour after you've washed the truck...

Sorry but it looks tacky imo. How much space back there do you lose anyhow (width-wise). I actually really like OnBelay's true blue and shadow gray flareside, and JokerGomez's red Flareside is not bad either.

Torresu, what is the deal with "LOBO's" in Mexico. I went to Ensenada and it was fun, but dirty (no offense), really liked the shopping and I was allowed to drink. What is the drinking age there?

And thanks Todd.

Oh and OnBelay, there is a way around that, search the forums I remember reading a small fix. I think it had to do with drilling a small hole for the water to drain from while washing.

Thanks for the compliment, and for anyone looking for the fix:

Water drip link

I also have already drilled a 1/8" hole in the bottom of the mirror housing to let water out (I have a sloped driveway, so if I'm pointed downhill when I wash, water gets trapped in there, too).
Approximately in the middle, side to side, then about 3/4' from the rear of the mirror housing. Drill in at about an 80' angle, slopes to the back, and the water will drain back and out, but the angle will not let water thrown off the road be pushed up into the housing...

nice write up. I fixed mine this last summer almost the same way. but after I got done with that fix I thought of a better one. I think it would be better to drill a hole in the bottom of the pocket in the fender at the lowest point. this would allow watter to drain into the inside of the fender out of site instead of outside over the paint. also this would leave no visible hole from the outside of the truck. too bad I thought of this after I drilled all the holes in the tie downs.

3 trucks here since 99 all flares. New body style came out and 03 flare after 10 months was traded right away when this FX4 with options was found on the lot.

At least post pics of your truck, I hate the flareside myself, well I don't hate it, but it's much better without if you ask me, it looks too much like an anorexic dog at some angles (you know how underfed animals have a skinny back end/stomach)
Too many opinions...best kept to yourself.

I bought a 4X2 for looks and size - smaller so it fits in the garage. I LOVE MY TRUCK, TOO.

When I was in the market to buy a truck back in 2001/2002, I considered the stepside / flareside pickup but thought it looked absolutely horrible. The tailgate was not proportioned to the size it should have been, the sides were all flared out and looked like a ballon - it just looked abominable. Not to mention, I thought the taillights were just absolutely one of the ugliest things (next to a Chevy) that I've ever seen.

HOWEVER - I think the NEW flareside/stepside pickups look REALLY good. As in, if I was looking for a "sportier" truck I would consider the flareside pickup in a heartbeat. The truck still looks more agile but yet also has that rugged sophistication that the F-150 practically INVENTED.

I actually DO like those tie-downs on the outside but, to each his own, right!?

My old 1998 F150 was a flareside (there's pics in my gallery). I'm not that big a fan of the new model flaresides though. I think it has something to do with those external tie-downs.
