ok so i got some actuators put in and alarm on my 05 stx. the alarm is a rebel i believe. anyways i pick up the truck everything works i am happy. i go pick up my girlfriend and i try to unlock her door using the key fob. DOESN'T WORK! i called the place right away to see what the deal was. they said that when the truck is on that the alarm cuts off. so i can't use any of the features. my question for you guys is...is there anyway i can tap into the actuators and put a button to lock and and unlock the doors while the truck is on cuz I am gonna run and do it right now. Which wire do I grab and where should I tap it?

First, you can wire anything you want to anything.
Second, go back to the clown that installed it, and have him set the options, or better, give you the instructions. Most aftermarket alarms will allow you to set choices, for example, unlock doors with engine running.
I prefer crimestopper brand because they are cheap and easy to 'fine tune'.
I have put a standard Ford 2004 door lock switch in my truck, to go with my PowerCode alarm/keyless. I added the switch. To use the switch you need the alarm to be the type that uses two relays. Since I didn't install yours, I don't know which way they hooked it up.
Ask them to adjust it first. If that is beyond them, ask them if they added two relays, and if so, where they are. You will need that info if you add a switch.
Figure out where you want the single switch.
If you get to that point, post back in the thread and I can tell you the basics of adding a switch to a pair of relays.
I'm not gonna bother typing a lot if you may not need it, so figure out which way you are going and let me know.

alright thanks a lot i'll call those ***** tomorrow. they said that they could do it but it would be like 50 bucks for the "parts and labor" i like your switch where'd you get that
I have a lot of leftover Ford parts from 2004-2005 projects. This was the actual driver door lock switch from a 2004 Lariat Supercrew.
However, the only parts needed are some wire and a switch. The lock switch could be from anything at all. Any pick a part type wrecking yard has thousands of these for 2-5 bucks.
Still, if they will install the switch, wire it, mount it, all for 50 bucks, I think I would let them. I did it just because I could, about an hour's careful work.

Yeah, it means that you ain't gonna do the switch in five minutes. Too bad. You can still do it but it would take some extra relays (usually 1-2 bucks at a wrecking yard, or 7 bucks from a retail autoparts outlet. You would need two of them.
Get the instructions for your unit and check under optional settings.
Or pay the 50 bucks. Ouch. I put alarms plus keyless in cars for less than 50 bucks all the time.
Not that I am saying that it is not a fair deal for the job, just prefer to do easy stuff myself.

Start with getting the model of the unit and the instructions. They should have given you that but, small shops...well anyway get that and then we will know where we are.
How comfortable are you with wiring? Or pulling dash panels off?

i am by no means an electrician but i can do it. i have wired all of my subs up and i even hard wired my radar so i am not a moron. pull the dash panels off eh i am down. just as long as you can tell me what to unscrew and unpull. i am not doubting that you will. i have half of my extended cab door trim off right now because i am checkin about setting those windows up to be on the open and closing switches
Step one is still find out what model unit you are using, so we can tell what choices are needed.

The alarm would need to 'trip' the relays, rather than use its own internal relays. In the instructions it shows how that is done. That is how you do it on a car that already has power door locks, you just trip the factory relays.
After putting in the relays you would be able to trip them with the lock switch.

Sorry to bud in on you'z guy's little conversation but, yeah, it sounds like you are getting the run around by the installer. If you have an alarm that works while the vehicle is not running, and not while the motor is on, it sounds like an "armed while driving" setting that is not enabled. I'm with chrisadams on this one. If you have relays, you have relays onboard or not, that should still provide you with the 5 wire option.
Sorry to bud in, Chris has things under control, maybe I just wanted to say I put my money on the settings not being enabled for what you want. Installer wants $50 for T/L to reprogram it...hmmm? that's how we made our bonuses!
