is there any fix to the bed shakes?
is there any fix to the bed shakes?
i have a 05 fx4 that has a "dancing" bed on it when i hit bumps. i have read some threads of people going to the BBB and such, but for what? what was the problem that made ford replace your truck? have noticed some other f150's on the highway that shake also. dont know if its a characteristic of a pickup or just the new f150.
I just bought my first truck and I have a 05 F150 XLT with a plastic bedliner and the truxedo cover on. What is the undercover? How much, and since it dont bounce, will it stop from scratching the bed up and rusting?
Thanks for the info!

Chris,
The liner WILL remove paint from your bed. It happens just from the small vibrations and expansion/contraction of the liner. If you are concerned, but like the drop-in liner, just remove and touch up the bed once a year. The best thing would be Rhino or Line-X.

It's the tail gate making all the noise when you hit a bump. A bed liner, bed rug or Line-X will quiet it down.
You know, I had a Ford factory bed liner put in my 97 F-150 when I bought it in 1996. When I finally pulled the liner out in June 2005, the bed was in perfect condition. No scuffs or rubs on the paint at all.

Not all plastic liners are that bad.
YOu have the factory ones and the high quality after-market ones that fit snugly with no 'play', that sometimes also have features like extra padding or velcro fasteners underneath the keep them firmly in place.
And then you have the cheap crappy ones that have a poor fit that gives the space for more vibration.

This old thing again. Your problem is a dancing frame, not a dancing bed. Your bed is bolted solidly to the frame. Your cab is isolated from the frame with rubber mounts that help provide your smooth ride. The bed is not isolated however, so every movement of the frame equates to a movement of the bed. Because of its isolation, your cab is moving at different rates than your bed. Have someone drive your truck while you sit in the bed, and you will think your cab is going to shake itself off.
Why do things like covers and bedliners reduce the shake? add weight to the back end, and the rear of the frame will bounce around and twist less.
The outboard rear shocks tend to make the rear of the frame have more side to side action than normal trucks.
Just the nature of the truck's design. If you had a bouncier ride in the cab, as well as lower top rails on your bed, you would see 'shake' comparable to other trucks.

I took my 05 screw back to the dealer and complained about the shakes. Ford has a tsb out about them. They put on a dampener on the frame and it did quiet it down quite a bit. The service mngr. said that any weight back there helps also loke bed extender or something like that. I had a discussion about this about 6 weeks ago in the other body forum.
