xm and ipod thru pie question
xm and ipod thru pie question
i recently installed my pie and ran a cig. lighter under my consel and used the belkin adapter. it sounds great. then i decided to get the xm trek commander and mount it in my ashtray like so many of you have done. i split the rca at the pie. now evrything sounds terrible. so then i unpluged the belkin and the xm sound great. so my problem is i cant keep the am plugged in and the belkin at the same time even if the i pod isnt plugged in. what can i do?i think since the belkin is plugged into cig its always on. i want to keep everything hidden.
can you give a link to your Ipod's belkin adapter so we can see what we're dealing with?
Seems you've got some interference from your Belkin adapter (perhaps a ground loop?) I need to see the adapter though and what it does though so I can figure out what the issue is.

mine too
I don't have the belkin, but I run the Ipod and the terk commander.. I wonder if it is the Terk Commander because with that just plugged in there is a terrible 'whistle" sound that comes. and when just the Ipod is plugged in - it sounds CD quality.. I dont' know what to do. I tried moving the grounds. pulling power from different places.. new cables.. the works.. all I get is the same stupid whistle.
I'm running my IPOD and sat. thru the P.I.E. system. I am only using the 1/8" earphone plug for the audio out on the Ipod and Sat. receiver. I have an older Kenwood receiver, the news ones may not have that earphone jack. As far as having a charging jack and fancy rig for the Ipod I use it too much to justify any of that I take it EVERYWHERE I go. So I charge it at work.
I have the exact same setup (ipod through belkin and xm commander). Like you I had a problem with the sound when the belkin adapter was either powered or hooked to the RCA splitter. The problem is that even when the ipod is disconnected the adapter still supplies power through the output. To solve this problem I put a switch on the power line to the belkin adapter cigarette plug behind the dash. I then installed that switch right between my dash cig lighter and reverse sensor disable button. To use the ipod I flip the swithc on and turn the xm off. I do the opposite to listen to xm. Everything works great.
