Alright since I dont have school because of the Rita scare I think im gonna see if I can pull it out and hopefully head over to homedepot for that 3" coupler. THANKS everyone..... I would waste alot of money and my truck would be pretty dull without this forum!

What problems do you see coming to mind might i ask ?
I just dont understand why Ford would intentionally rob an engine of power..... especially if removing the "silencer" doesnt even increase intake noise like some have claimed.... Whys it even there?

Hey CE9Aevo & fourpointsix, so did the 3" coupler actually go INTO the old tube opening in the fender?

was just curious, i dont actually know how big the opening is, but i would figure you should push it through if possible, to collect colder air on the outside of the engine bay. I plan on trying this simple mod, especially if its only a few bucks, i just want to get it right the first time

Thanks guys!

Mines goes into the fender opening the same distance as the original. If I remember correctly, it measured 8cm x 9cm in a wierd semi oval shape.

I used a piece of semi-rigid tubing that has about a 15 degree bend I got from a friend(I think it was part of a heavy-duty vacuum attachment). I cut it to length and used two hose clamps, one on each side of the 3" PVC coupler.

I was going to use 3" pvc but Lowes only sells 8' or larger. A little creativity shouldn't hurt.

ok, why does it need to go back to the fender? I just took off the piece that goes to the fender and left it like that.

Pulled the silencer today. Got it half way out after two or three tugs. Went for a short trip afterwards. Not sure about more power, but the engine does seem to "glide" through the RPM's from 0 - 2000 a LOT better. Lots of hills here so it was def worth it.

Now as for the fender inlet, not sure I'll do it. My main concern is that the inlet from the fender will overlap the next piece. So the right half of filter holder would be inside the added PVC inlet. Will this ridge inside there create turbulence? I'm thinking it would so whatever is gained by more air in would be lost by the air not flowing smoothly. Then again the air flow through that ribbed section. To those who have done the PVC, can the mod be undone?

The mod can be undone, just undo the hose clamps and throw the stock inlet back on.

For the silencer, unless you removed it without damaging it, I guess you could put it back in. I tore mine up pretty good, no way for me to put it back.

That silencer is FUBAR now, ain't no way it'll go back in there. Guess it could be used for a beer bong or moose call. It's already in the recyling bin. CE9Aevo, thanks for info on the added inlet. Might try it in a few days or so.

Sorry I missed your post. Running it into the fenderwell keeps you pulling cooler air.

If you leave it off your intake air will be the temp of the engine bay, it's more noticable in city driving.

Exclamation Say what now?

You made it sound like originally that you just replace a smaller stock pipe with a larger bendy pvc pipe. Not to cut away the box!

I was wanting pictures of the pvc coupler mod not the air box cutting

if youve got em please post em!

Thanks,
-Patrick

Alright.... stage 1 is complete.... took my 20 minutes from start to finish by myself. Wasn't near as hard as I expected it to be, just have to be careful of with the ridges of the rubber deal and be patient with it. I havent had time to test it out on the road but I did noticed a slighly different exhaust note.

..... Ok well I took her for a little spin and I can tell a difference in the throttle reponse! Yet Im not completely happy with my exhuast note anymore. It seems airy at times and I can hear more intake than exhuast at high and low rpm ranges.

I finally got up off my lazy *** and opened the hood for a couple of pics. I didn't feel like disassembling the intake. Maybe these will clear up some questions.
