This was an early mod to my 2001 - 4.6L - F150 - 4X4 SuperCrew ( at less than 10,000 miles). I plugged in a KH filter and put 170,000 miles on it without the first problem.

Go for IT !!

Also interested in the performance. I'm a little hesitant to do it yet. Only 940 miles on my 05 and would hate to want to put it back in. Decisions, decisions.

Do it. It really helps the power. Adding the 3" PVC into the fender also helps a lot. I have picked up some power and over 1 MPG with these mods.

Wait a sec I think I missed something, how'd you add the 3" inlet on a 4.6? I spent about 3 seconds looking at mine after reading the DVW thread at work the other day and figured there was no way to do it. After that I just forgot about it and added a K&N. Maybe I'll remove the silencer tomorrow and when I have it all apart it'll make sense.

I'll get some pics up ASAP. It's really easy to do. Take your filter box off (it just snaps right off) and pull that POS tube that goes from the box to the fender out. The thing has a tiny diameter where it pulls air in, probably 1.75 to 2 inches only. Then attach a 3" rubber PVC coupler ($6 at your local Home Depot/Lowes)
to the end of the box that goes into the fender. It was extremely hard to get the coupler over the end of the box. I used some liquid soap as lubricant and it eventually slid into position. Make sure you space it so the coupler either touches the fender wall or goes into the hole the old tube went in. Tighten up the coupler and reinstall. By the way, the intake is louder when you do this, but the power is noticeable. I've gained a little over 1 MPG. I'll calculate exact numbers next fill up.
