Limited Slip renders useless....

I have an 04' F-150 SCab 4x4 with a "limited slip" that is very disapointing. I have had three occasions recently when the limited slip failed under diplorable circumstances. Two times crossing a mild ditch diagonally, with no real mud, just wet grass and water and one tire would break lose and the other would do nothing while its on good ground with good traction. Both times I had to lock it in the pull through the ditch. Last weekend I was going down a road that was under water and I came up to a hole with hard bottom and went to the outside because the water was seemed pretty deep in the middle. With one tire in the water and one tire on good ground one tire broke lose and again no limited slip. These limited slips seem to be very week compared to other trucks I have driven in similar conditions with "limited slips", it might as well be an open axle.

Now in the grass or dirt she will spin both with a poke of the gas, but put it in any plasuable situation and its very weak. I have Terra Grapplers and they get good traction, but not enough for one tire to move the truck in a mild wet ditch.

Anyhow, I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this disapointment or if this is just an isolated case? If so maybe its time to take a trip to the dealer.

Pretty much the same with all of the F150s I have had. If your flexing it very much don't expect it to work.

Blade what part of Florida are you from, I'm was born and raised there.
By the way if you lock the Ebrake a few clicks 4 or 5 it will cause both tires to see equal pressure and stay locked better. I did this all the time when I had a 2wd and played in the sand alot. But, if you get into a major bind it will still act like an open diff, the best thing is to get lockers.

mine works great in all situations you mentioned above, they should be the same trac lock units for the 9.75 rear axle i asume for both the 03 and newer body style, the only time mine does not work is if it is overheated the clutch packs by doing donuts or something along those lines were it is getting worked hard the clutches will not be as effective untill they cool off also if you add less friction mofifier to your diff fluid it will engage easer but the cluches wont last as long, good luck, you could also try alittle power brakeing to get engine speed up to give the diff alittle more TRQ to lock it up going slow it wont work that great takes alittle wheel speed

Yes I was born and raised in Palatka. I'm suprised you picked up on that, even here in Jacksonville most people don't know where Palatka is.
