Is the dealer the idiot or am I?
I bought a 2005 F150 Supercrew from a local dealer here in Jacksonville Florida. The truck came with a "Sherrod" package installed on it. This is simply ground effects, racing stripes, 20 inch Panther wheels, Flowmaster muffler and dual tips on it. I installed a K&N Filter on it a few weeks ago.
The problem is that I have experienced real crappy gas mileage and the same rough idle that everyone else seems to have. I have read on here about the PCM reprogram and even tried to find the TSB that has been referred to on here to print out and take with me to the dealer.
I took my truck today and told that I am have idle issues, poor throttle response and crappy gas mileage. I even mentioned that I read online about a PCM upgrade. This was at 8 am EST.
At 4 PM EST, I get a call letting me know that they cannot do the PCM upgrade because the tires and wheels installed on the vehicle are not the factory wheels and tires, the exhaust is not the factory exhaust and the air filter is not factory installed. Thus, the computer they had connected to the truck read the back pressure and it was different than stock, the air flow was different and he could not put tire size in.
In short, no reprogram. Am I the idiot here or is the dealer? I have since put the paper crap filter back in because I am going to take it to a different dealer tomorrow. But How can it matter if I have different tires and wheels on the truck or not IF the overall diameter of the tires installed are the same as the factory ones? (34 to 35 inches total if I am correct) How could this matter if the overall diameter is the same?
I was told that the flowmaster exhaust is within OEM specs on it by Sherrod and should not have any effect on the programming of the PCM.
What is everyones opinions here? Am I screwed or is the Ford dealer an idiot????

The dealer for sure, cause my dealer did my truck with Mickey Thompson wheels w/bigger than stock tires and with a DWV intake & a K&N filter. I also didn't have to make any excuse, I just called them and asked if they reflash 04's they said yes and made me an appointment.

Wheels and tires shouldn't make no real difference, but what's to say that you already don't have the latest calibration available at this time? I'd try another dealer.
Stephandudra,I live in Jax and had my reflash done last week-I only have the Magnaflow siso.Dealer said nothing about it-My f-150 Lariat is a pure pig-bad gas milage and poor power. That was at M.D.Ford,I purchased from M.S.Ford-M.D.has still not resolved my massive evap leak in 2 weeks but did do the reflash-And it did help-If you power brake it on wet pavement around a curve it might brake loose-maybe,See you like fishing-Me too.I think the answer to our issues are to be found at Troyer-Gotta get the tuner.

stephendudra no it doesn't matter if you have a 04 or an 05, but like quintin said you just might have the latest calibration already, and or that dealer doesn't have the latest reflash, you could try another dealer. I would try another dealer just because that one is giving you bullsh** about the parts you have on you truck.
I forgot to mention cyprus that it was Mike Davidson that would not flash it. I called Duval Ford, where I bought it and they still have about 5 of the sherrod trucks there, and the service advisor said the same thing!!
What is everyone referring to about having troy reprogram it??? At the point of having the high gas prices, I would just much rather prefer to have mileage vs power.

The tuning is the superchips xcal2,Troyer sells them with 3 custom tunes-like for different octane, towing or performance.Just give them a call and ask the questions you need answered, also take a look at the chips and tuning section of this forum.
