Floor Mats

What does the surface texture of the Weathertech mats feel like. Is it a rubber surface or just hard plastic? Is the surface material any different than the rest of the structure?

How do the weathertech floor liners fit in the trucks without the center shifter? All the pics I see are of the floor mounted shifter.
