High Pitched Whistle at Idle.
High Pitched Whistle at Idle.
I have a high pitched whistle at idle, that goes away as soon as you give it any gas. Even If you only bump it from it's 500 rpm idle to about 750rpm it goes away. It's like a valve opens at idle and the air is whistling through it. I can't figure out where it's coming from. It sounds louder on the driver side though. It doesn't get any louder if I take the filter out, so it's not there. Any suggestions? Does anyone else's do this? I guess I should take it back to the wonderful service dept at my dealership ( sarcasm ), so they can keep it for 4 days and tell me it's normal. It idles good and runs good, so i assume it's not a vacuum leak or intake leak.

BUT I figured it out anyway. I thought it wasn't the belt or a pulley because it went away when I gave it gas instead of getting worse. But it sounded like it was coming from the power steering pump area, so i sprayed a little water on the belt right there and it quit immediatly. So I guess it was just some belt squeal. I revved it up several times and drove it around the block and it's still gone. If it comes back, I guess I'll try some belt lube or get a new one.
