Happy now...

I'm happy with my AF1 now that I have the "new" tube.

Well, I decided to relocate the filter further on the tube to see if it would change the decibel level. It made a significant difference in reducing the noise level under acceleration. No more floor board vibration or dash rattle. I would still like to quiet it down some especially at that 1/2 to 2/3 throttle 3000 rpm spot. It seems like it is temperamental in a weird way. I almost thought that the air temp in the engine compartment might possibly affect some of the sound. Only reason I say that is because it seemed a little bit quieter first thing this morning when it was 15 degrees cooler and probably 40 degrees cooler in the engine compartment.

To answer another question that was asked earlier...I think the SISO Magnaflow Cat back made a bigger improvement in engine power then the AF1. Our trucks definitely need a power improvement across the board but the added torque from low to mid range that the Magnaflow made was more noticeable then the supposed 25 HP gain at 3000 RPM that the AFI is claiming. I can honestly say that I did notice a little better acceleration in the mid to top end from the intake.

I have a feeling that the Xcal 2 is going to be the biggest improvement x 2 as far as mods go.

Dzervit,
I asked you a few questions about the K&N vs Airaid recently. I bought an Airaid yesterday, installed it last night, and if ANY of the other systems are louder than it is, I would never put one on. The K&N kit you have spoken of is almost identical to the Airaid, and is real close in cost - looked at both in the store. The AF1 gives less than 5% gains over either of the other systems. WOT is loud....glad I don't use it too ofetn, and so is my gas tank....

Interesting... what about wrapping the tube & heat sheild with Dynamat? That should shut it up.

Actually, Airaid sells a 'pre-filter' that when installed, restricts minimally, but kills the resonant sound....looks like panty hose material. The sound is reportedly from the vibration to the filter, so it makes sense. WOT is a huge increase by the way, and installation was done by my 15 year old son......

I would have to agree at this point. I'm waiting on my Xcal2 and i think I will just stay with the K&N drop-in filter for now

I already posted this on another thread, but I just installed my AF1 a week ago and no problems as of yet. The sound is great (which to me is in the ears of the beholder) and installation took 45 minutes. Had to file tube for clearance for sensor. Overall, VERY pleased.
What does the xCal2 do to your warranty?

I have the SC1714, Flowmaster SIDOS, and K&N drop filter now. Today I called Troyer's and ordered the AF1, they said it should ship out today or early next week. I did my research on a few others but opted for the AF1 based on Mikes R&D, and from the people on this site who love the kit. I'll be sure to post my thoughts as soon as I put it on.

Hell, if it makes more power I could give a hoot if it's loud. I like the sound of my Airaid intake. It howls too and it's pretty bad-***.

Hellbound, im with ya on that bro...the roar of an intake coupled with my super 40 Flowmaster exhaust is BADA$$ I think its funny everyone wants a high flow intake yet they dont want the sound of all that air entering their intake And those of you with the intake and no tuner i would say bite the bullet and get some tunes from Mike, I honestly dont think the stock engine management program knows what to do with all that air the Airforce sucks in without some engine program changes..........

All i know is my truck hauls A$$ with a tuner, intake and exhaust running Premium fuel I love the look on the hemi drivers face when they are waxed by a Ford...........
