I just add power windows to my 2004 XL F-150 truck.
A friend and I took about 4 hours to do it.
I got them from A1 Electric Automotive also add power door lock at the same time.
The price was not that bad about $350 for all.
If I can do this anybody can, so if you like to have power windows, and lock go for it.

Sweet! I was going to do this to my STX, but I just decided to buy a Lariat instead.

To anyone putting power windows in their XL or STX truck, to cover the crank holes I can recommend this approach;







These tweeters are actually hooked up and working. They do add a little to my Pioneer speakers.
They would have looked better mounted flush, but I mounted them ‘swivel’ with ¾ inch collars, so I could point them up for better sound.
If you don’t care about the sound mount them without the collar, flush, and they really look great.

A nice 11 dollar way to cover the holes with something that looks intentional, not cobbled.

Did you just splice the front door speakers?

 

The tweeters come with crossovers, hidden inside the door panels, those are spliced to the speakers. Pulling the door panels (an easy task) was the hard part.
I fastend the tweeters with pop rivets, I could have used screws or bolts but the rivets are quick. If I had just used the dome tweeters without the collars I would have epoxied them in position.

That would have looked better, but I decided to go with the swivel so I could point them at where your ears are...

I have a 2005 F150 XL and wish to install electric windows and locks, but I can't figure out how to remove the door panels. It looks like you've solved that problem, care to share your secret?

Been posted, a lot. But just for now, it's very easy. Start by removing the little cover in the inside door handle. I use a screwdriver that has black tape on it so it won't mark anything. The black thing pops out. Two 8mm screws to remove behind it.
Then I use the same wrapped screwdriver to pop off the speaker grill. It has a couple places you can put something under to pry/raise it up enough to get a finger under. It pops off around the edges. 4 7mm screws and you can remove the speaker. Remove speaker wires, (they only go one way, different size connectors) and set speaker some where safe, or replace with decent speakers. Much better drop in speakers cost about 30 bucks each.

Hard part, remove the two bottom plastic push in speaker bolt holding spacers. They pull out, reluctantly. Leave the top ones. Remove the two bottom 7mm bolts.

Oops, almost forgot, you have to remove the window crank first.. Sorry, mine have been gone a long time..

The back outer cover or skin of the window crank prys up, using that wrapped screwdriver. You pry up the 'skin' at the spline end, and swivel the skin to the side. There is a screw in there, remove it, the handle comes right off.


Lock the door, to get the lock stub down out of the way.
Lift door skin up and back. Use third hand to unpop the cast plastic clip part of the inside door handle.
Push the inside handle back next to the door, away from the skin and carefully let it dangle on its cable.
Set the door skin somewhere safe.

Notice, NO pop in pins, the door skin lifts off, held by the bolts and hooks. Very nice, and nothing to replace unlike pins.

How did you folks get the new wires from the door into the cab?My 05 has a big plastic plug the clips into the door frame.Not like every other truck I have ever had that just ran a rubber boot from the door to the body.

 

My truck has the regular boot. The 4x4 trucks tend to have the white plastic block. Truthfully, it would be quicker and easier to just get a small boot and drill two small holes, adding the new boot, rather than mess with the white block. A pick a part has thousands of boots for under a buck usually.
