F150Duke,
If you can get them to smooth and paint your mirrors for only $200.00 I would definitely do it !!! I really wanted to have mine done but I was quoted $350 + to have mine done. I was told that it takes a LOT of work to really do it right and match the silver and the paint guy I use does awesome work. Maybe that is why he was trying to charge so much .....

I saw where you said you were driving down to San Diego ... Where is the shop located that quoted you $200 ....
Thanks...

I'm actually flying to San Diego for work. A body shop in MN is doing the work for me.

Does anyone know how to take apart the power mirrors? I have taken them off the truck, just want to know how to take the mirror apart so the body shop does a better job. It goes in tomorrow morning and will be back on the truck tomorrow night!!!!

Thanks,

Duke!

I don't think they pull apart. I was talking to one of the Ford guys and they said when there is a problem in the mirror, they generally replace the entire assembly as pulling it apart will break tabs that are needed to hold it together. We had to have them replace a side mirror on our sport trac because the electrical adjustment stopped working and they replaced the entire assembly.

I'll be getting mine done eventually, but I've been hoping somebody would come out with a cover that could be painted.

That lifted white Lariat is kinda what I want my truck to look like when finished. Although I think I am gonna go 20" on 35" tires, and not paint the mirrors. I don't know yet. See me in a couple years.

Well they went in this morning to get painted, and should be on later this evening. Might have to hold off on pictures until tomorrow though because I enjoy making everyone wait...and the truck is super dirty...can't let RP see that.

I gave them the instructions to take the glass off (thanks asinatra), but they were nervous about doing it because they don't want to break the glass or tabs in the mirror as supposeably they are easy to break. So they're just going to tape and lightly spray around them.

Glossy B pillars should be on next week too.

I know this is late but the glass just "pops" out. I know this because someone stole mine. New ones just "pop" back in and are only about $15 shipped apiece. ( i have the heated power ones for those who are curious)

I have 3 pics saved of a black f-150 with painted mirrors and painted handles but I don't know how to post them here.

Hmm, if his paint job around those edges stinks then I'll have him do that. I pumped, I just got a call that the glossy moldings are in too, so I'll pick those up too on my way home and install them. Now to find the B molding thread for directions...hopefully it won't be too hard. I definitely have to replace the flat black ones now since a football helmet fell of the wall last night in the garage and bounced of my drivers side B molding and scratched it to hell...must have been a sign because it didn't touch the rest of the paint.

haha, well I'll get pics if I actually get to all of it. The girlfriend is super pissed because I've spent the past two weeks modding the heck out of my truck (LT shifter, LT handles, painted antenna cap, painted mud flaps, painted side mirrors, glossy B pillar trim, dynamat in doors, carpet padding in doors, and starting my HID retrofit)...fewww thats a lot of money....

So I know posting three times in a row is a bad thing but just had to share the bad news.

The mirrors ended up needing a lot more work to get them how I want them done. They had to completely take apart the mirror, and by that I mean the glass, the swivel, everything. They're charging me another $60 to do that, but if it's done perfectly then oh well. He said it takes an hour a mirror to take them completely apart and put them back together, but he'll only charge $30 a mirror to do that since he didn't anticipate it. In the end $260 isn't bad if the mirrors are flawless. I'll go look at them tomorrow morning before work and put them on then. So no pics tonight. Tonight I'll finish my LT handles, with the exception of the one that is on national backorder, and the glossy B panels. No love lost on the mirrors, I have a bunch to finish anyway.
