Fender Badge Paint Problems

Well after three months the black paint on the letters (F-150) has starting to flake off. Definately going in for a warranty repair.

My questions are:

1. Has anyone else had this problem, if so how hard are they to replace?
2. How much work is involved in getting them replaced, what has to be removed to get the fender and tailgate badges replaced.

Thanks in advance for help.

Haven't had a problem with mine.

They stick on with two sided tape, with locator pins.

I had that on my rear one when I got the truck, they dealt with it no problems. Easy.

wonder..

what causes that. It seems that people have had this problem on their wheel emblems also. I wonder if it is the type of cleaners that are being used or if it is just poor paint job?

Mine was flaking at the dealers before I got it, but only on the driver side emblem. Dealer said he's seen it several times before, and covered it under warrent. Brought it in to the service dept. the next week and they ordered a new one, and I hope to get it installed this week (they said it takes about 5 minutes to get the old one off, but about 30 for the glue to setup on the new one).

While I was looking for the truck, I saw the 'flaking emblem' syndrome at all 3 local dealers, and on maybe 15 to 25 % of the trucks.

Hopefully your dealer will be cool about it as well.

Went back today, and got the new emblem put on. It took about 20 minutes to get the old double sided tape off (using fingers, solvent and some type of plastic chisel thingie). New one was on in about 8 seconds and ready to go. I took a random survey of the trucks on the lot, and about 2 in 5 had the emblem problems.

good luck!

I saw a new SD this week and the paint was flaking from the badges. I think I would just remove the paint all together and go with the all chrome look.
