17 inch or 18 inch

I currently am running the 17 inch on my 04 XLT. But, I have heard a rumor that if you put any 17 inch aftermarket wheel on the new 04's and 05's, they won't fit due to the brake caliper. I would like to stay with the 17's for money reasons. Can anyone give me some info on this? Please post some pics if you have 17's aftermarket on your truck.

Thanks for the help,

Not true at all, 17" is the diameter of the rim. I'm assuming that if the factory installs 17" than any aftermarket 17" will fit around the caliper too. The only issues I've found deal with backspacing. This determines if the wheel is "tucked" or exposed. Search the forum and you'll find plenty of 17" rims. Alot of guys with 18's, like myself, plan on down-sizing due to tire selection/cost.

There was an issue with the Centerline CROSSFIRE wheel not clearing the calipers on 05 models built after 1/05. The word was the caliper size was slightly increased and the Centerline wheel would no longer fit.

That was a couple of months back. I haven't read anything about it lately.

I have 17" Weld wheels on my truck. My truck was built 11/04.

Right. Apparantly Ford changed the brake calipers during the 05 model year which causes some fitment issues with some aftermarket 17 inch wheels. You should be fine. Always test fit one wheel before you start mounting tires.
