Broken Fuel Door!

I know there was concern about this before. but I have some questions.

I had maybe 5 fill ups in the truck and my fuel door was laying limp, wouldn't close or open - I took it to the dealer and they kept the truck overnight.

I had maybe another 10 fill ups in the truck and my fuel door was laying limp again, wouldn't close or open just flapping in the wind- I took it to the dealer and they kept the truck overnight again.

I am very gentle with this thing and I have been, I want it to last. when I brought it in they looked at me like I was standing on it or something!

Is this something we can expect every 5-10 fill ups or so?

what actually breaks? is it a spring or something?

are there any after market replacments that will yeild a better result than the one that came with my truck?

Thanks

You could get one of those billet fuel doors. I personally dont think they look good on these trucks, but that's just my opinion. It's an option.

I’ve had my truck since 10-24-03 and haven’t had a fuel door problem yet. I keep my fingers crossed though, because this complaint comes up rather frequently.

I've had mine since february and I slap that sucker shut when I'm done without any thought to it's safety... I can't imagine what the problem would be with yours. Lets hope they actually fix it this time. Sounds like something just popped loose not once but twice on yours. Good luck!

I think I killed mine when I opened the door and hosed the door to clean it, went to close it and...like a limp noodle. That was several months ago and have not had a problem with the new one since. Are you using a hose against the open dorr? That might be doing it.

I have done that - washed it, but I don't know if I noticed it right afterwards or not. I know for a fact the first time was opening it at the pump 'it just went limp' ... mmmmm it'd be interesting to see if others that have had the problem noticed it after a wash?

Happened to me too. Dealer fixed it under warranty but now I'm wondering if/ when it might happen again.

Same here, had mine since May though. I fill up at least twice a week due to my long commute, and I haven't noticed any problems at all. I might be a little more careful now though.

It does feel like a cheap flimsy piece. I'll have to be careful with it.

I've had my Scab since March and my door did the same thing
The wife told me to take it in to get it fixed...but me being the HardHeaded Dummy ... I tried to fix it myself. Long story short, I now have to get the whole insert :o !!! For now I have a small tap of velcro keeping it shut . That's what I get for being Lazy and cheap .

it's the spring

it's the spring,, mine broke in 2004 shortly after receiving truck,, dealer put new spring assembly on truck and said it's supposed to be stronger than original one,,(so far so good) lousy setup though for a $30,000 truck.
