You don't, but there is a little thing called crossovers & inline converter thingies... basically, if you want to do it you can.

Are you saying that you only have the Audiophile HU and not the Audiophile system? The Audiophile system comes with a subwoofer from the factory. If you purchased the HU from someone else and are trying to install it in your truck, then you might have to get the third connection that comes out of the Audiophile HU and run that to your new sub/amp. I believe the Audiophile HU has an internal crossover that passes only the lower frequencies thru that third connection. This means that the front and rear, or the 4 channel part of the system, is not receiving the low frequencies, therefore, if you tried to hook up these outputs to a sub, you wouldn't hear those frequencies because they aren't there. If your HU really isn't a Audiophile HU (it has to have three separate places for pin connections for the Audiophile in the back, if it only has two, then it isn't the Audiophile) then you can do what Dzervit said.

My kenwood head unit has two gold connectors on the back of it (I think they're called low-pass inputs) that I ran two wires from there to the 150w amp on my bazooka 8" enclosed sub. I don't know about the new 04+ f150 head units, but they might have those connectors. I dunno. If it doesn't have them, you'll have some splicing to do. But it is possible and fairly easy.

I just have the stock 05 system 6 disc/mp3 with no sub and the sound system sucks, the bass dissapears when the music gets loud. I just wanted to know if I could just add a sub with an amp for a little more bass.

in sure there are better ways to do this, but this is what i did on my 01 and it sounds great.

get an amp that has optional regular speaker wire inputs. find which wires in your factory harness are for which speakers, splice the wires to your amp in with them and voila i heard the quality may not be as good as with the RCA cables but honestly i couldnt ask for any improvement.

It's probably not worth the trouble with the stock system. The sub is going to overpower the stereo very easily. I would spring for an aftermarket deck if you plan on running a sub at the very least.

Commonly referred to as "line level inputs." I had a similar setup in my '02. Because I had the factory installed video system, I did not want to change the HU and run the risk of disabling the rear controls/headphone jacks. What I did was go to http://www.supercrewsound.com and purchased an "under-the-seat" box for a single 10" woofer. I loaded it with a JL Audio 10W3V2 10" sub, and bought a Kenwood 250W bridgeable amp to run the sub with. I installed the box under the seat, and had the amp/wiring done by a local stereo shop. For what it was, it sounded really good. If you're looking for a cost effective way to add bass to your stock system, I would recommend this, and then upgrade your component 6x8's with some nice 2-way 5x7's in all four doors. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

I got an MTX Thunder amp with speaker level inputs and a MTX sub w/supercrewsound.com box and it sounds great with the factory single cd player! I just used the rear speaker wires in my Screw as the input. It does not overpower the rest of the system, that's why you tune it with the input gain on the amp, and bass settings on your radio. I also have Kenwood components in my front doors and they cleaned up the "highs" as well.
