Relash done today... I think. Quintin and other Ford techs, in here!

OK, so I found out a couple days ago that my F-150 had a build date of 4-04 (I think thats what it was), so I would be affected by the TSB that has to do with lack of power/poor acceleration/bad mileage. I didnt really have any of those problems, but I wanted to see what the re-flash would do, so they had it in service all day today while I was at work.

All I can say now, is WOW! What a difference. It seems to have a lot more acceleration wise, and the shifts seem much firmer. Now it feels like a 300hp truck! Maybe this is just because it hasnt learned my driving characteristics yet. I dont know...

Thats where I need help. On my RO that I got from the Service Advisor today, it says "Re-programmed PCM to 5L3A-12A650-CGB." Is this "the" re-flash that I am thinking about (the greatly improved one)? The Service Advisor basically explained it to me like this "it's like when you update Windows on your computer, it has all the new instructions, the latest software." Is this the case?

Someone help me out here please?

I do agree that the truck feels much more powerful now. Like you said, it feels like a 300 HP truck now.

It'll unfortunately slow down in a little while. Mine and some others did. Not slow down as much as what it was before but not be as fast as it is now. Sorry to be a party pooper

Duke...I don't doubt what y'all say, but (just thinkin' out loud) I wonder if the 'slow down' is just the vehicle re-learning some less aggressive driving characteristics? Because I normally drive very conservatively, when my more aggressive son drives my truck he thinks it's a dog, but I've noted that it drives differently (less responsive) now than when it was just delivered.

Question

5L3A-12A650-CGB."

Is this particular reflash only for the 2005's? I was told I had the latest reflash for my 2004 and its not the same number as the one above mine started with a 4.

Quite possibly, I wouldn't be able to speak to that as I have never actually read about that...more of just a word of mouth thing that I don't fully trust. However, I drive my truck both ways...conservative for about 3/4 of the tank of gas, but 1/4 of it is WOT. I also usually accelerate pretty hard (3500 RPMs) is when I let it shift.

Well I can't wait to see what 300 HP feels like. I just put in my K&N filter on 8/6 Sat and tomorrow 8/12 My truck go's in for a reflash. As far as the filter go's I changed mine because it was filthy from doing donuts in a dirt pit near mauna kea, and with the K&N It feels like it gain about 6-9 HP around 3500 RPM and up, but Im no dyno so what do I know.

The latest and greatest recalibrations can vary depending on the year model. For instance, my '04 was built in April '04, and the latest calibration for mine is 4U7A-GPA. I honestly didn't notice a huge difference after reprogramming mine, other than the transmission shifts firmed up a little. Glad it worked out for you though.

Quintin, I just had my 2004 (04/04 Build Date) Reflashed with the same calibration as yours (4U7A-GPA). Question for you. Does this mean we would have the same computer code now? The dealer (Allen Vigil in Mount Zion GA) did affix a sticker but with the calibration not computer code. Before mine was EAY4. Just wondering because I need to get my tuner changed from Troyer and if our computer code is the same could you just tell me yours? By the way I am in Columbus probably 2 or 3 times a month, I work for an Insurance Company (Not the duck company) and have brokers in the area. I appreciate any help.

Quintin, thanks for the info. I had to take my truck into the dealer because the reflash sticker they put under the hood didnt have the actual flash # on it, is this normal? Troyer needed my refash # for the X Cal 2 so I had them hook the truck back up to the computer and read the #. They gave me a 4U7A 12A650 GTA. Does this sound correct?
