Window Tint

I finally found someone to do my windows illegally. I want to get 20% on the fronts, and I want the back to match, whatever it takes. Someone on here said the '04 supercab rear windows were 15% factory, but I'm not believing that because I can see right through them. Does anyone know for sure what % they are factory?

Also, I know a chic that got her windows tinted today and the guy told her that some little bubbles on her side windows would be gone in about 2 days after the sun hits it a little bit or something. Is that true or did the guy mess up and try to blow smoke about it?

I know I read one time about certain kinds of tint that are better than others, so what is the right kind to be sure they tint my windows with? I know nothing about that stuff.

When I got my window tint done on my old truck the guy at the place said the 20% and 18%, etc. all really close together is just to represent the different types of materials they use. If he just goes 20% on the front it'll match up. Probably the same deal because he did 20 and it matched the factory on my old truck.

20% or even 15% would be pretty easy to see right through during the day time.

We went 5% in the front and 20% (added) to the factory rear and it's a pretty close match.

Imperfections do normally get taken care of courtesy of the sun and cure time...I've had some take a few weeks to get rid of some haze, bubbles, etc. Scratches due to negligence at installation will not recover; if you see scratches upon delivery, request that portion be re-done.

There are top of the line films like 3M, but most films available today are high quality. I'd take a professional install and lesser known film over 3M installed poorly.

If you want it to match factory go with either 15% or 20%. I had mine done at 15% and Im very happy with the match.

I actually have a tint meter that my grandfather had let me use to check my windows. The rear is 20% from the factory, for sure. I went with 20% Llumar tint on the front windows of mine, and the match is perfect. When I tested the front windows after, 20%, exactly the same as the rear. So if you want to match, have it done with the 20% Llumar. It looks bada$$!

I went with 15% Llumar ceramic and I think it matches perfectly.

I'm considering getting my front windows tinted. A match would be nice but in MD only 35 is legal. Cops are pretty uptight about it up here and actually got pulled over and had to have my tint removed on my Mustang and it was only 20.

I don't like 35 but might just do it to avoid the hassles.

It's funny to hear all the different 'matches' for the front. I think folks don't realize 20% is a match, but with all the light flooding in through the front window it appears lighter, and then a 15% or so appears to be a perfect 'match' when in reality it's darker. And without direct sunlight, a 35% tint will look like a perfect match. I love these threads!

If she leaves it in the sun, the tint should shrink and the bubbles should disappear if they are little and not big ones, especially with metallized film tints.

dzervit,

The place that tinted my front windows put a light meter on the backs and they were actually closer to 16% so that is why I went with the 15%. I have stood outside with a shade covering the front window and they "appear" to be the same. Either way, it is good enough for me.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll go with 20%. Hopefully the tint shop will use the good stuff, not sure what brand/kind is good and what to avoid.

If they have LLumar go with that. I went with the new ceramic tint, which will not interfere with any types of electronic gadgets.

Here is their site http://www.llumar.com//na-eng/Automotive/auto.html

I got mine tinted 3 weeks ago and they ran out of 20% right before they did my truck (figures) so I didnt want to wait unit another day so I took the 15% and it looks great.
