Hard shift/slam from 1st to 2nd

Searched posts and did not find anything specific on this. 05 lariat screw, build 01/05. Anyone have this fixed? Taking truck in for 10,000 mile service tomorrow and to get transmission looked at again. Had it in at 3000 miles for same problem and did not happen for tech. Dealer said there were no error codes. Happens after truck is warmed up, under light to moderate acceleration. Feels real bad, like a slam into second. But other times it shifts real smooth, especially when truck is cold, or first started.

At the 3000 mile service they ended up replacing clutch packs for another issue. ( have to get them fixed again also because rear hops around sharp turns and moans if you turn in a sharp circle ( like in a parking lot ).

Any info on the trans shift appreciated.

thanks

I appologize no one responded to your thread ealier, this normally happens here because most people dont know **** and only go off what others say.

Anyway... Its hard to diag the problem, but my first thing would be to take a look at the rear end, it doesnt seem the tranny is a problem. The clearences mostlikely moved from within spec after install, most gear guys will set it up with the tightest clearences so that if they do loosen it it will still be within spec.

Have it diag'ed and report back

hard shift

I have noticed that when I am towing the trailer, from a complete stop there is quite a snap. So much that you actually think the trailer has come off or ran over something.

If your dealer pulls some crap like that and says it's just the way it is, then F that dealer and take it on down the road to the next one. Unless you live in a small town, and even some small towns have multiple Ford dealers, you just need a second opinion. These trucks are supposed to have the smoothest transitions from gear to gear and there isn't supposed to be any kind of harshness whatsoever. Unless you have a programmer w/ a shift kit, or just a shift kit, you should be sailing smooth. It sounds like your rear ends IMO, though. Either way, next dealer.

I have had this same problem since I got mine (04, 4x4, LS rear). It has been in for the slip yoke grease, clutch packs, and pinion in the rear end. Each time I get it back, I think my problem has been fixed, but it keeps doing it. My truck went in for it again Monday, and they just called me saying that they went over the tranny, rear, engine, etc, and can't find anything. I'm at almost 32000 miles and I've about had it. I haven't even been towing with the truck. I just know that at 40K the tranny will blow or something and I'll be stuck with it. The problem is that it doesn't happen all the time, so they can't duplicate it. I just told them that I don't care if I have to drive some rep around all day until it happens, I want it fixed. To just "keep an eye on it" is BS because I have been "keeping an eye on it" for 32000 miles now and it's still there. I'm starting to think about the Lemon Law, but I would much rather just have the truck fixed. Sometimes I wish I were a foot shorter (and a little less wide) so I could just get a Tacoma. This is my 3rd F150, first brand new, and the first time I've had headaches. I'm waiting for a call-back right now. Would I be more likely to duplicate it whith a trailer hooked up?

It's hard to say what it could be over the internet. If I were working on it, I'd try to see if there's a later calibration available for the PCM. I know there were for earlier build '04s for shift quality concerns.

I don't know if its what you guys mean, but mine would hesitate sometimes going into second, almost like it went into neutral, and then hit hard into 2nd(about 1/3 throttle). Didn't do it much, but I hated it. I got the latest reflash, and all has been good, not to say that it wont do it again, but has not yet, shifts totally different now too. Holds gears longer, and they are a little firmer, really like it.

Smile Hard shift/slam from 1st to 2nd fixed !

Thanks a lot for the info guys, thought I would update thread with todays service trip. Great news, PCM was reflashed, and no hard shifts yet !! Been driving on back roads to all the usual "spots" where it would happen. So far, so good.... Truck also feel more responsive now, firmer shifts and when you stomp on it, it'll spin a bit longer and mid range power ( once it hits 30 mph ) feels stronger. Truck ran good before the reflash though, 5k rpm shifts in all gears, slight rear tire spin/chirp from the start, but it definately shifts firmer now, and will kick down with minimal pedal pressure. Hope it stays this way!

Now I can concentrate on next mod. Borla was last month, now on to the intake ( probably the AF1 ..)

Love my loaded lariat again !!!!!!

I know exactly what youre talking about... mine does the same thing and it IS the trasnmission, but its in the program not the physical transmission itself, almost as if it doesnt know what gear it wants to be in. If I unhook my battery and clear the KAM it'll be fine for a while and the trucks also more responsive till the adaptive strategy alters the program, then wham its back the the random part throttle slam into second. If Im towing it never happens.
