I think i might have the same problem yo guys had... Im going to try to reset the computer and see if it goes away. At first i thought it was the rear end problem that everyone has... but i think i experienced that today... and now i know what that is.... I have a few things to see the dealer about now...

that is slop in your towing rig, most likely from your ball mount. when you brake, the mount gets pushed forward; when you accelerate, it slams backwards until the pin stops it and starts pulling the trailer.
looseness in the coupler will do the same thing.

if everything is as snug as humanly possible, there are cushioned ball mounts that reduce the impact.

Then again, ignore me, I don't know ****

My 05 KR is in for this same problem now, mine has only done it a couple of times. Both times I was towing my trailer and going around a slow corner to reaccelerate. It kinda hung between first and second and freewheeled for a second before finally slamming in to second gear. Otherwise, it seems to be fine except for slow downshifts. The service advisor told me they were gonna reflash it. Maybe that will fix it.

Honestly, it wasn't that big a deal, I just don't want the tranny to self destruct.

i've been having problems with my tranny also, but i'm afraid if i even think about going to the local dealership, they'll say everything is fine, like with my AC system that blows cool. I have the slamming gears from time to time, a noticable lag between downshifts from 3rd to 2nd, like the torque converter is slipping, and sometimes when i put it in gear, touch the gas, it hesitates to move, then slams forward. almost like it has a stall converter. This reflash people are typing about seems to help, could i just go to another dealer and tell them to reflash the truck, o rwill they have to hunt and hunt and tell me a few times nothing is wrong? I hope the trannys these trucks have don't start acting like the ones in the Taurus/Sable cars.

Talked to the dealer today and they still haven't found anything "wrong." They're keeping it until Monday to have a guy from Ford drive it. I mentioned the reflash, and they say it has already been reflashed (it was for the temp sensor over a year ago.) Anyone ever had the Ford rep guy (or whatever they are called) involved on a problem? I'm not too optimistic that it suddenly slip out of gear for him. Guess I'll find out Monday.

well, day two after the reflash and still no hard shift/slam from 1st to 2nd. All my regular travel spots where it would happen are now smooth. ( No more letting off the gas before it shifts into second to avoid the 'slam' !! ) Truck also performs much better, breaks a spin at 3/4 throttle from a stop, makes you wonder if all the new 05 builds run like this now. Decided to order the volant cold air intake to go with the borla catbacks, it just looks like it belongs under the hood. ( just my opinion guys... ) Great posts on this sight helped make up my mind.

Here's the latest pcm reflash calibration dealer used for anyone having the same problem here :

5L3A 12A650CLB - ( my PCM 'catchword' is TEM7 )

verified this was the latest for my pcm at :

I'll post back to this thread if the problem returns in the future, for now, fingers are crossed.

good luck, later....

I decided to do a little expirament today... I Reset my computer by unhooking the battery for a few minutes... After I reset the computer The druck ran like a dream. When i finally get it in to the dealership im going to get it reflashed with the latest code.. and hopefully that will fix it for good.

I have a 05 f150 screw. It has with 110k miles on it. I randomly get the hard shift just after take off. Seems that it happens with mild to harder acceleration off the line and most often having been at a complete stop/engine off. Had the rear end completely rebuilt a few month ago and the thump still happens as it did prior to rear end rebuild. It only makes me worry when it happens, but then it only happens periodically. Was thinking of changing the fuild/filter to see if that would have effect. Hopefully its just the electronics and not a internal mechanical thing failing.

05 F150 FX4 78K miles.

Mine did it new, maybe 2,000 miles.
Dealership took a peek and lubed it, went away until.

Now (78K miles), Dealership took a look, lubed it and said there were some metal shavings but not that bad. They said I'd probably need a new Drive Shaft in a couple years. They said there wouldn't be a catastrophic failure but just more consistent clunking down the road.

I'm kinda pissed, this should not have happened at 2K miles or
78k miles. I would think that major part should last much
longer than that.
