nerf bars

All,

I'm looking to put some nerf bars on my 04 F150 2wd, i dont want anything that mounts to low as i loose some ground clearence and i've heard stories about some rattleing or never mounting tight. Any suggestions on a good brand, I like the nfab style but know nothing about them. Please offer up some help, lol

thanks,

Steve

I've only had the factory nerf bars on my trucks, but if I were to get an aftermarket nerf bar I would go with Westin. Good luck.

I have Westin also. I have black powder coat stainless and highly recommend spending the extra $ for them if you plan on keeping the truck more than a couple of years. They bolt to existing holes in the truck body(which is very solid) I use them all the time and haven't had any problems with them.
I don't have any real good side pic, so this will have to do. I don't think you'll find them too low. Check out my gallery for other pics.

I also have westin but the sure grip boards and they mounted very easy. I got the anodized aluminum and they look good.

I have the westin oval tube side bars & love em. Im a pretty big guy (6'3-6'4 & like 300lbs size 17 feet), and the bars hold me up nicely. My foot fits right on the bar, and its easy to get into the truck with the bar. The ovals are nice since they are a lil bit wider than the round bars (4.75 inches instead of 5 inches).

I kind of like the Ford aftermarket ones. These are the 4 inch tubes and they have three mounting brackets instead of two on the factory installed ones. You can bounce on them with no give at all.

I put Smittybilt SureStep chrome nerf bars on my 96 Ford Ranger. I lived in Medford, Oregon at the time, which is very hot and dry (not the rainy, green Oregon people think of). The warranty was 3 years. At 3 years, 4 months, I started getting rusting. About 3 months after that, I had large flakes of chrome peeling off and speckled rust on most of the bars. I took really good care of the truck, too.

Thus, I would not recommend Smittybilt. I would recommend a stainless bar with a lifetime warranty against rust.

boy, that's an image I can't get out of my head...

If you mean a "winch", you need to stick with ones made by the winch makers themselves. They are the only ones designed to take the stresses and not kill somebody.

My step dad and I got "stainless steel" nerf bars from Ebay. Nasta was the name of them. I have used weston, putco, and may others and none compare to these. Easy to install and hold up like no other so far. Not hard on the check book either!! Check them out.

Hey Bigmike,

Mind if i asked how much you paid for the westin oval's? And can you guys please recommend some good websites for buying these, plus other accessories? I just bought my 05 F150 XLT Scab and I need some nerf bars!!

I also like the ford OEM ones as are pictured above. How much are these? I assume that you buy these thru the dealership or is there a good website to buy these from as well? Thanks for your help guys!!
