Rear end problem?

I recently started to notice a shudder when accelerating from a stop while making a turn. It only happens at low speeds and only when turning. I'm thinking that it might be coming from the limited slip in the rear end. I have 20,000 miles now and at about 18,000 I had a wheel seal go out. I'm going to make a service appointment tomorrow. Any suggestions.

I also had that problem, on initial take off from when my truck had been sitting. (like in the morning when i would leave for work).
The dealership replaced the clutch packs in the differential and never had the problem again.
Note: it did not shutter when turning tho.

Funny thing is I never had this problem until I took my truck into the dealer for other problems. I got it back and it has this problem!

I have a similar problem, but mine is without the turning the corner. My dealership refuses to fix it. They say to drive it until it breaks down. Thinking about calling ford about them.

LOTS of people are having this horrible problem.... I've done a TON of reading in several forums about it. Some dealers are doing the clutchpack then the slip yoke or vice versa. Some people have both done and the problem persists (both repair procedures are documented Ford TSB fixes).....

My truck did this after only 2,500 miles on it. In the beginning it was only during slow turns from a stop... now it does it straight from a stop... however, just like everyone else, it's intermittant... sometimes it does it 10 times in a row from a stop, some days it never does it...

It is DEFFINETELY NOT NORMAL as the clunking/hesitation/catching feeling sounds and feels outright damaging.....

My dealership has a Shady service dept. I know have over 5,000 miles on the truck and it STILL has not been in for service..... The kept cancelling appointments with me.... Their ENTIRE tech team walked out on them complaining about pay...... they striked in front of the dealership.....

In any matter, I am not going to let this problem go.... Ford will either fix it or take their truck back in exchange for a 06 or my money back.....

sometimes I wonder about "Built Ford Tough"........The TSB's fixes noted above are from 2004! and they still have 05's with the problem... shame shame....

I have the clunk coming from a stop... Only sometimes.... Its an 05 too. Ill probably take it to the ship in a few weeks... once i figure out all the things i want to have addressed. Luckily i dont have the shake that many have... but i do have a slight vibration when braking at speed. I think some new rotors will fix that problem.

Yes sir , that's what I would do. That stealership would be out one customer
for sure PLUS they would be mentioned to Ford.
The problem is either the clutch paks or slip yoke or both. I had the problem
early last year when I first bought my truck, they replaced the clutch paks
and it drives fine now...

Mine was doing the same thing I had it to the dealer 3 times but they could never get it to repeat it for them. And on top of it mine would sometimes shake voilently at highway speeds just some times never in the winter. And I would tell them my 77 firebird did the same thing when the L/S rearend went bad, the last time to the dealer I made the service manager go for a ride with me driving got a block from the station and it did it He looked at me and said I think Its the rearend the clutch pak. well they replaced the clutch pak and life is good now and some of the other driving guirks are gone, it was like driving a brand new truck home so smooooth. I was really noticeable pulling my camper before they repaired it. And I think I'am getting better gas mileage.

I think you had the slip yoke problem and they greased it when the did the clutch packs and solved the problem.

Ugh!!!

Gets me upset to hear that 2 generations of this F150 have been rolled out and still no fix. I just about ready for my 3rd service and Im going to "Bitch" about this one!... On my last service, they changed the clutch packs and it was okay for a week and then got worse.

Also, I read on another message that some rear end gears or pinion gears were actually damaged as a result of the faulty LS... is this true???

cluth packs

Had the same problem,, dealer had no problem replacing clutch packs in rear,, said ford knew of the problem and once their tech drove and confirmed shutter they replaced them,, took 1 day,, what dealer told me,, for what it is worth,, is that ford tried different clutch packs and material was too hard and not absorbing any oil at all which made them stick when taking off from start,,mine would shutter at start of left turn,, they replace with new clutch pack 2000 miles ago and no problems after that,, this should fix your problem also,, good luck
