Damn that looks good! Do you have steering wheel controls, and if so can you still use them?

Thanks! No steering wheel controls. My truck didn't come with them, but they sure would be nice!

IF you have them from the factory you'll need to buy a Pac-Swix and you'll keep them. Its about $50 from Crutchfield.

It looks pretty good.

Thank you also! Although the AVIC-D1 is a very nice unit, the navigation with XM traffic is super cool, you can't rig it to where you can input addresses into the navigation or have a front passenger watch a movie while you have the car in drive. It is not a simple grounding of the parking brake wire on that unit. The unit knows if you are moving, through the GPS, and will automatically disable all of the cool features. To my knowledge, they haven't found a way around that yet. Just a little FYI in case you didn't already know or if you might be interested in knowing.

The ACIV-D1 does this or the DDX8017? I have the DDX7015 and it is a VERY sweet unit. From what I can tell, the only things they changed with your new unit is the GUI (graphical user interface) and they added the internal 5.1 decoding. To have surround on mine, I have to buy the optional PCM module that plugs into it for decoding. They also changed the remote. It appears to have the same faceplate and buttons though. I have wondered this for a little while, but is it possible to flash the 7015 with the firmware from the newest units to change the GUI to the new style? Has anyone ever heard of this being done? That would be KICK A$$ if you could!!!

Thats the way they all are when there new, unless its just a ground switch. It's just too new at the moment. I use to go though this with my Alpines. Wont be long till they release a bypass. I love the way kenwood makes it easy to bypass.

Naw, they are getting real bad about how they do it now. Alpine got sued for some pretty big bucks so they're making it so you can't, something to do with the gyro for the GPS.

The AVIC-D1. The DDX8017 also has direct touch dvd menu control. That is so you can just touch the option you want directly on the DVD menu. I am not sure about that software update. You should contact Kenwood.

The older Avic-1 you could ground the parking brake wire. The newer AVIC models you cannot because of the newer technology that automatically knows when you are in motion through the GPS. The Alpine units have to have a special box that you can get through the internet, but it is a little more complex than just grounding the parking brake output.
