Those little boxes are all over Ebay for about $30. I only know when I was looking at an Alpine D901. The only thing with Alpine that sucks is if they send you an updated disc even on the older models you'll have a problem with viewing movies while in motion.

Yep its all in the software nowadays. The avic-d1 has a break switch, taps into VSS, and senses movment from the gps. I dont see anyone getting by that with switches or gismos. It will be a software mod CD's to get around it. Say byby to the simple days.

I was also looking into the Alpine units a while back and I heard that too. That is one of the reasons I didn't get one. But if I did, I sure wouldn't be using the old upgrade disc. The other reason I didn't go with Alpine is price! I understand that Alpine has the highest quality screens and some damn fine audio quality, but they sure are proud of there stuff. Plus, I think its about time for a website update.

Aren't you guys who have the double DIN radios, at all scared of theft. After all, you have alot of money tied up into that radio, and to keep it out in plain site just seems kinda wierd to me. But then again, I have had my **** ripped off twice in the past. Just my 2 cents.

I've got an alarm + most theives who are stealing audio equipment know something about it and they'll know that Eclipse headunits or worthless stolen because I can call up and they can deactivate the headunit so it won't work until I get it back!

I went ahead and got an extra $4000 in insurance for an extra $125 a year. Steal my **** and I'll just go get some better **** the next day! Plus my Kenwood has a security code that cannot be changed, so once it is disconnected and you don't input the right code after the 3rd try, a number comes up and if you have registered the unit, they will tell you how to unlock it. If you are the SOB that stole it, they will ask you what time you would like to be arrested! Thumper, I use to have an Eclipse unit a while back, and I put the wrong security disc in 3 times and luckily the shop that installed it registered the unit for me, so I just called and they told me how to unlock it. Make sure that you have it registered with Eclipse.

I hear you. The top left is my iPod on the Kuda base, to the right is my cell phone on its mount. It's like a ****pit. It is all buckled down pretty securely. I have the iPod hooked up 2 ways. One with the Kenwood KCA-iP500 iPod adapter, and one through the video 1 input on the DDX8017. That is because Iit is pretty hard to find a song if it is not in a play list through the KCA-iP500. So I have to have the iPod handy.

Simple parking brake ground. Easy stuff. I had a shop do the install for me because they were the cheapest place for the headunit plus they were going to do the install for free.

To have surround on mine, I have to buy the optional PCM module that plugs into it for decoding. They also changed the remote. It appears to have the same faceplate and buttons though. I have wondered this for a little while, but is it possible to flash the 7015 with the firmware from the newest units to change the GUI to the new style? Has anyone ever heard of this being done? That would be KICK A$$ if you could!!!
I've got a 7015 that I'm installing soon, but I did some research on the new models. It appears to me that the cool GUI on the 8017 is only available on the 8017. The 6017 and the 7017 have better GUI than the 7015, but not drastically so (more fine tuning, etc.). I compared this by downloading the manuals for the new units and comparing the screens.

When you guys say it turns off all the cool features...what exactly does work?

I've considered replacing my Audiophile 6cd HU with one with navigation, etc.

I guess the radio controls and Navigation still works correct? Can you alter your destination while driving, change stations, etc?

Is it just the movie that gets turned off (which wouldn't bother me)

Do the radio controls on the steering wheel work exactly as it always has?

Thanks...(rookie questions I know)

Oh yea what about an interface with the factory DVD drop down?
