unclear

i purchased some pyle 3 way speakers for the front of my Screw, instead of splicing the stock "plug and play" housing i just spliced the wires that came with the speakers made a ball at the end and shoved it into the factory housing. my problem now is that at low base levels its unclear, sounds staticky, like the speaker is blown or something, highs are clear, but base is not clear at all, is this due to a possible bad connection or do i have 2 blown speakers? both do it by the way.
thanks guys

Not to be too sarcastic but....

Sooo, since you can buy adapters (crutchfield gives them out)that plug into the speakers and into the stock harness without the need to splice anything, you instead opted to splice up some wires, ball em up and shove them into something they weren't supposed to go into..
and now you wonder why they are unclear?? What don't you pull them out, do it right and then see what they sound like. If they still sound bad you f'ed em up or they are just a crappy speaker.

If it is occuring at low volumes, then it is a loose connection. If it is occuring at higher volumes, then they are under powered. I would rewire it, use some good connectors to the speaker and solder the wire to factory harness if you cut into already. If you have not cut into the factory harness, I would buy the adapter plugs that connect to it from Crutchfield.

The only place that I know you can get them from is Crutchfield. Just get on their web site and order away!

nope you can only get them at crutchfield and they are about $20 a pair after shipping. not worth it to me since they send them out free w/speakers.

they are the pyle blue series, about 45 a speaker, just some fyi, kicker is a trusted brand as well, you can get some of those at wallyworld. just because the brand name might not be the best, every speaker company has a high end version. the highs are amazing, i just have to work with the connection now and i should be good.

This will be moved to the speaker forum soon enough,

There is a company online that sells connections to mate up for factory connections with out going through crutchfield.

Soldering is an option but for a mid performance system you can use regular crimp splices and get by with out loosing much.

From the mods section of my truck's web site:

I prepped each of the speakers with Metra 72-5600 "Ford Speaker Adapter" connectors. They come two in a bag and are about $5 for the pair. For 4 speakers you need two bags. I picked mine up at the install department of my local Best Buy store.

Splicing should never be done with speaker wires unless you solder the connections as well. When placing the connection in a metal door, it is best to heat shrink the connection or at least wrap in electrical tape. The static you hear is a grounding type issue, and can also be assisted by installing a ground loop isolater (Radio Shack). Pyle speakers are not garbage BTW, they are actually very high in regards to specifications.....when you do not buy the bottom of the barrel in regards to model. Still way better than stock system.

Also check the ohm rating on the speakers and make sure they all match....that is a common problem that causes inferior sound.
