stock tire option question.. did I get screwed?

Here's the option that mine supposedly has:

Tires: LT245/70Rx17 BSW A/T (5) General $340

Now I got the LT245/70R17's but they are not A/T's.. They are the General Grabber TR series tire, load range D. They look to be a decent highway tire but they sure as hell aren't all terrains.. Nowhere on them do they say all-terrain, they are marked as M/S (mud/snow) but so are my all-season Michelin LTX M/S's.

What gives? Did the dealer do a switcheroo or does Ford give everyone the bone on this option? For being such an expensive option (its probably cheaper in the USA) I expected actual all terrain tires, not all season highway tires like what I got. Not that I'd be keeping them anyways but at least I might get more for them trading them in at the tire shop for some bigger ones.

so in a nutshell, anyone else whose trucks came with this option, did you get the same tires as me?

All the general's I have had have been the so called on/off road tires. The TR means "traction" as opposed to the AS tires that are the all season.
I think I have the Ameri 550TR's on my truck.

Most of the stock all terrain tires are not really aggressive. I haven't had any problem with the stock tires that came with mine, but then again, I am not rock crawling in it. It has been fine in the snow and a bit of mud, and did just fine off road on loose rocky trails.

I don't think you got taken. Just that the stock tires are usually not anything to write home about.

Load range D is pretty good for a 1/2 ton truck, should be a thicker side wall/more weight capacity.

None of the all terrain tires I have had, including BFG all terrains, have had anything more than a M&S rating. I don't think there is any official rating for off road tires, just the tread pattern that decides.

As far as I know every state has what's called "implied warranty of merchability". What this means is that what ever is implied either written or verbal, it must be honored otherwise it is violation of consumer protection laws. Now having said this, it is within the law to substitute equal or higher quality item. Now with your tires, what is on the invoice differs from actual item, is this violation? Yes or maybe; cause they subsituted (dealer can claim higher quality--we all know how dealer can play the game). Solution to your issue would be take your invoice and your truck to the dealership's sales manager and ask for solution. If they do not response friendly, report your isssue with State Attorney General's Office. I used to work there and solved lot of these, small issues. Godd luck.

Or whatever the equivalent is in Canada...

(Personally, I've never seen ANY tire I'd want to pay for that came from a dealer...I'd haul it down to the tire shop and get something worthwhile.)

Yeah I just bought a set of 285/70/17 Goodrich MT/R's, it just chaps my *** that I paid $340 extra for the sake of having an LT rated tire and it's not even an all terrain like it's supposed to be. I didn't order the truck, the one that I could find with the options I wanted just happened to have that option included.

What you got is an on/off-road tire. The Grabber TR is rated for off-road use. The TR stands for TRiple TRaction TRead design. I have the General Ameritrac TR tires on my truck and have been satisfied with them so far. They ride better than the 18" BFGs that came on it. Here is a link to the General web page for your tires: Grabber TR.

If you had read and believed all the BAD reviews from people having problems with their F150s you wouldn't have your new truck either.
