Headed to dealership

Well guys...got an appointment at the dealership tomarrow morning to fix the "wine" noise in the back end and get the freon balanced to see if it will help the air conditioner be colder. Also...the stering wheel seems to shimmer pretty good while going 60+. Not a bashing thread but just seeing if anyone else has had the rear end problem? Good thing for warrenty

same stuff here, dealers been at it for about 4 months no and still not fixed. Rear is whinning like a school girl even after new ring and pinion and the steering shakes like mad. Good luck.

When im going 40-50mph and slighty acelerate the whinding sound is really bad...like the whole back end is vibrating. When i begin to coast at all nothing seems wrong.

Hrm....I was wondering if I was the only one hearing that whine.....good to know I'm not just paranoid. (After all, I HATE it when people say "Eh, you're just imagining things. I live on a NINE MILE LONG gravel road - if it's loud enough for me to hear it with the windows closed on that road, I'm not 'just' imagining it.)

Nope..not your imagination. Mine used to whine above 70mph and keep whinning until I took my foot off the gas. AS soon as I stepped on the gas, the whine came back. Now after the ring and pinion has been replaced, it whines from 50mph on up whenever im on the gas.

Mines in right now for rearend whine. They said theres a TSB for it and an axle kit. Took the rep for a drive and we both heard it clearly. After having it for two days now they say they cant hear it. Guess I'll have to go down there and show them a second time.

I also feel a slight clunk from the rear when taking off from a light, just as I hit the gas. Not bad but enough to notice. Anyone else got this. (I'm 2wd 3.73LS)

I had it. Theres a TSB for that also. I think they grease the slip yoke or something like that. Mine doesnt clunk much anymore. Now it just shudders when I take off from a stop...

Got it back, turns out it wasnt the rearend it was a rear wheel bearing. As far as the slip yoke, they admit there is no fix. After lubing he said expect it to be back in a couple weeks.

Did get the reflash done also

Took mine in Monday for the shudder and whine. They greased the slip yoke. That seams to have fixed the shudder. Said they took it for a ride and couldn't confirm the whine. Said maybe the customer was hearing noise from the tires. It's not that loud and not really bothersome so I don't really care at this point. The shudder ticked me off but they fixed that. Thought I'd tell them about the whine while it was in getting the other thing fixed.

Mine whined really bad until I realized I left the radio tuned to the R&B station...it's been quiet ever since.

(All kidding aside, good luck with your whining, everyone...hope Uncle Ford figures it out...)

I've got a thread on this. Seems like this is pretty common for 2004 F150's.

Anybody know of this on 05's?

Alright guys...got it back from the dealer this morning. Im reading over the report and heres what they found. They replaced the ring and pinion for the backend which seems to have solved the problem for now. They also check the AC and it seemed to be working just fine. Then they tested the steering wheel shimmy. They balanced the tires which have somewhat fixed this problem.So...the dealership came through thanks to the warrenty. IT would have costed be $1200 bucks other wise.
